Kelly married Jon Gallimore on April 23, 1988. Even though Jon and Kelly eventually went their separate ways, they remained good friends and Jon continues to be part of the Sommer family.
When Kelly was 13 years old, she was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes. In her teens, she became a volunteer at Lakeside Nursing Home visiting and writing letters for the residents.
