Mary A. Witte
Mary Antoinette
(Toni) Witte passed away on Friday, September 19, 2008 at Lakeside Medical Center in Pine City, Minnesota at 97 years of age.
She
was born on September 6, 1911 to Anton and Mary (Griffith) Witte in St. Paul, Minnesota, the eldest of five living children…(Three
sisters died in infancy)
At the age of two months, she moved with her parents to their homestead near Navajo, Montana
and later right in Navajo until the family returned to Minnesota in the fall of 1925, where they settled east of Beroun, Minnesota.
After
graduating from the country school in the eighth grade, Mary worked in the Pine City and Cambridge areas as a domestic and
later moved to St. Paul where she began working for 3M in 1942 where she retired after more than 30 years employment.
On
October 30, 1948 she married Herbert H. Witte. They celebrated almost 34 years together before Herb passed away in July of
1982.
Mary was also preceded in death by her parents, Anton and Mary Witte, brothers and their spouses: Lewis A. J.
Witte and first wife Nan, second wife Marjorie; William F. Witte and wife Genevieve; brothers-in-law; Edward Stransky and
Wilbur Larson, nephews Leonard A. Larson and Mark Witte, and special friend Glen Truesdale.
Mary is survived by her
sisters Theresa Stransky and Hattie Larson, many nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews, other relatives
and friends.
Funeral services for Mary A. Witte were held at Swanson Funeral Chapel in Pine City, Minnesota, at 11:00
a.m. Tuesday, September 23, with interment in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in St. Paul, Minnesota. Casketbearers were Gary Stransky,
Gordon Stransky, Bill Larson, Randy Larson, Willie Witte, Josh Witte, & Tony Ordner. Arrangements were with the Swanson
Funeral Chapel of Pine City.
