Olive H. Olson
Olive Helen Olson, the daughter of
Gustaf and Paulina (Walski) Stein, was born May 18, 1911 in North Branch Township, Isanti County, Minnesota. She died October
12, 2008 at the Golden Living Center in Rush City, Minnesota, having reached the age of 97 years.
Olive was baptized
and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. John’s Lutheran Church at Weber, Minnesota. Following her graduation from
Cambridge High School, she continued her education at Normal School where she received her teacher’s certification in
1930. She then taught rural school in Lent Township of Chisago County where she met her future husband, Henry W. Olson. They
were married June 17, 1933.
In 1940, Olive and Henry moved to Rush City, Minnesota where they owned and operated an
electrical and appliance business known as the Rush City Electric Company. Two sons were born into the family, Warren, who
is a retired teacher and coach, and Richard, who is a former Lutheran pastor.
Olive has always enjoyed the activities
at Golden Living Center, especially the music and the church related events. She has been a member of the First Evangelical
Lutheran Church in Rush City for over 55 years.
Olive is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law: Warren & Sandra
Olson of Fridley, MN and Dr. Richard & Janyce Olson of Richmond, VA; grandchildren: Todd & Lisa Olson of Richfield,
MN, the Reverend Tom & Eunice Olson of Hawley, MN, Terry & Kelly Olson of Columbia Heights, MN, Tina & Charles
Ross of Brooklyn Park, MN, Erik & Laura Olson of Austin, TX, and Rolf & Laura Olson of Georgetown, Guyana; 22 great
grandchildren; and one great great granddaughter. Olive was preceded in death by her parents, Gustaf and Paulina Stein, her
husband, Henry who died in June of 1955, her brother and sister-in-law Samuel and Della Stein, and her sister and brother-in-law
Hertha and Claude Anderson.
A visitation will begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 16, 2008 at First Evangelical Lutheran
Church in Rush City with a memorial service following at 11 a.m. The Reverend Laurie O’Shea will officiate at the service.
A family inurment will take place in the First Lutheran Cemetery-Rush City, MN.
