Rose Anna Jacoway

March 1, 1909 — March 27, 2009

Rose Anna Jacoway was born at Lesterville, South Dakota on March 1, 1909, and was the daughter of John and Agnes (Chodora) Bartos.  She grew up on a farm in Minnesota and attended school at Hopkins, Minnesota.             As a young woman, Rose worked at the Glen Lake Sanitarium where she met her husband, Delbert Jacoway.  They married October 11, 1930, and moved to Rush City, Minnesota where they raised their family.  Delbert passed away in 1977.             Rose loved living in the country and in her younger years she always had beautiful flower gardens, a large vegetable garden, and raised flocks of chickens.  In her spare time she did crochet and embroidery and belonged to a neighborhood knitting club who called themselves the Knit Wits.  She was also a long time member of the Rush City Covenant Church.             Earlier this month Rose became Rush City’s newest centenarian.  Always having a sharp mind, she could not understand why there should be a fuss made over being old. After all, at age 92, she won a spelling bee at the Rush City Senior Center and then advanced to the next level of competition at the North Branch Senior Center in North Branch, Minnesota.             Rose died March 27, 2009 at the Golden Living Center in Rush City, having reached 100 years of age.  She is survived by her children:  Carol & Bob Kuglin, Evelyn Larter, Jeanette & Kenneth Spielman, all of Rush City, Dale Jacoway of St. Paul, MN, and Douglas & Pauline Jacoway of Columbia Falls, MT;  14 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and one great, great grandchild.  She was preceded in death by her husband Delbert, infant daughter Arlene Rose, granddaughter Julie, two sisters and two brothers.             Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at the Olson Funeral Chapel in Rush City with Pastor Greg Gritz officiating.  Music will be provided by Dianne Kirchberg.  Casket bearers will be James Larter, Michael Larter, Duane Spielman, Bob Spielman, and Michael Swanson.  Interment will be at the First Lutheran Cemetery in Rush City.  Arrangements are entrusted to the Funeral and Cremation Service ~ Olson Chapel of Rush City.
