Mae Anderson

May 13, 1910 — June 16, 2009

Mae Anderson passed away peacefully on June 16, 2009 at Cerenity Care of White Bear Lake, Minnesota. Mae was born at Rock Creek, Minnesota to John and Caroline (Gabrielson) Rudquist on May 13, 1910. She grew up on the farm surrounded by her loving family of 11 siblings. These were gentle people who accepted life gracefully and as it came to them. The lessons learned in her family served her well all of her life. In 1930, Mae married the love of her life, Roy W. Anderson. They settled onto a farm at West Rock, Minnesota where they ran a dairy operation and engaged in other businesses such as trucking and carpentry. Mae worked at the Cambridge State Hospital as a nurse’s aide. Their marriage was blessed with one son, Dale. In 1963, Roy and Mae moved to Grantsburg, Wisconsin where they purchased the Shady Knoll Nursing Home. This business allowed Mae to earn a living and still care for her ailing husband, Roy, who died in 1965. After Roy’s death Mae engaged in many activities, including cooking at the Luther Point Bible Camp, the Rainbow Café in Grantsburg and the hospital in St. Croix Falls. She went back to school and obtained her high school equivalency diploma and never ceased learning. Throughout her life, Mae held family at the center of living. She loved children, never ceased to enjoy their company and was the embodiment of patience. Gentleness and kindness were her gift. Mae is preceded in death by her parents, John and Caroline Rudquist, husband Roy, brothers and sisters, Richard Rudquist, Alvin Rudquist, Lydia Ness, Olga Rudquist Erickson, Solon Rudquist, Myrtle Rudquist Rydlund, Gust Rudquist, Hjalmer Rudquist, baby Jerome Rudquist and Jerome Rudquist. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Dale & Nancy Anderson of Marine on St. Croix, MN; granddaughters: Laura Emerson of White Bear Lake, MN and Sarah (Tom) Hietpas of Lake Elmo, MN; great grandchildren: Ashley Emerson, Jordan Emerson, Quentin Hietpas, Paige Hietpas and Henry Hietpas; her sister: Lilly Scott of Alexandria, MN; several nieces, nephews and many friends.
