LaVerne Nelson

LaVerne Nelson was born to Alvin and Hulda (Anderson) Nelson on September 24, 1922 in Sunrise Township, Minnesota. She attended and graduated from North Branch schools. September 1, 1945, LaVerne was united in marriage to Rueben Nelson of Rush City at Kost Evangelical Free Church. They made their home in rural Rush City. LaVerne was active in the Rush City Covenant Church but spent most of her time caring for her family and home. LaVerne and Rueben farmed until 1975 when they retired and moved to Cherokee Village, Arkansas. In 1987, they returned to rural Chisago County. LaVerne died Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at Windy Acres Assisted Living Home in Forest Lake at the age of 86 years. Throughout her life, LaVerne enjoyed singing and listening to Gospel hymns. These last years she looked forward to spending time with family and friends, attending church activities, and going out to eat with Rueben. LaVerne is survived by her children Ron (Judy) Nelson of Rush City, Richard (Janice) Nelson of Willmar, Judy Lu (Greg) Nelson of Wyoming, Ben (Joan) Nelson Antioch, Ill., Jim (Mary) Nelson of North Branch, Betty Jean (Ronald) Peterson of Rochester, Lowell (Carol) Nelson, Joe (Vandy) Nelson all of Rush City, 25 Grandchildren, 36 Great Grandchildren Also surviving LaVerne are her brothers Arden Nelson and his wife Audrey of Lino Lakes, Orville Nelson and wife Lenore of Sauk Rapids, Step-sister Elda Johnston and husband Lee of Swanville, step-brother Kenneth Peterson and wife Lynn also of Swanville, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; Harriette Nelson of St. Cloud, Paul & Violet Nelson of Arpin, WI, Helen Johnson of Braham, Clarence & Ruthie Nelson of St. Paul , Dorothy & James Gerdin of Braham, David & Janice Nelson of Rush City, Hannah Nelson.of Virginia, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. LaVerne Nelson is preceded in death by her parents Alvin & Hulda Nelson, husband Rueben, great grandson Levi Nelson, daughter-in-law Carol Nelson, brothers Durbin and Elliot Nelson, sister-in-law Lillian Nelson and step-mother Esther Nelson. Pastors Tom Mason, Chris Kelly and Ray Chesier will officiate at funeral services for LaVerne Nelson; 11:00 a.m. on Monday at the Kost Evangelical Free Church in North Branch. A time of visitation and reviewal is scheduled for one hour prior to the service at the church and also Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. @ Olson Chapel in Rush City. The interment will take place in the Kost Free Cemetery.
