Elizabeth "Betty" Kubesh-Stancyk

Elizabeth “Betty” Kubesh-Stancyk was born June 16th, 1920 in Mission Creek Township, Minnesota, to William & Martha (Fritsche) Schumacher. Betty was the 13th of 16 children. On June 21, 1937, Betty married Carl Kubesh and to the union, 10 children were born. The made their home and raised their children in Beroun, Minnesota. After Carl’s death, Betty married Thomas Stancyk and she continued to live in Beroun. After Tom died, Betty moved to Pine City where she became a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Pine City. Betty worked many different part-time jobs throughout the years such as a waitress, egg candler, various factory work, and also at the local greenhouse. She loved crocheting, knitting, tatting, and also playing cards. Betty also loved to play the accordion. For a while, she and her husband Tom played in a band known as “The Polka Chips.” Due to various health problems, Betty moved to the Lakeside Nursing Home in 2002. She continued to crochet, put numerous puzzles together, and embroidery. She also looked forward to her weekly card playing on Monday with the girls even up to the very last few weeks. On Thursday, December 31st, Betty passed away at Lakeside Nursing Home at the age of 89. Betty is survived by her children: Mary (Harold) Countryman of Ironton, MN, Robert Kubesh, Margaret (Jack) Roubinek, Clair (Linda) Kubesh all of Pine City, Mike (Linda) Kubesh of Hinckley, and Jerry Kubesh of Pine City; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; 2 sisters: Hattie & Adeline; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husbands: Carl Kubesh and Thomas Stancyk, and children: Rita (Clayton) Pavek, Catherine Champlin, Mark Kubesh, and Greg Kubesh. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 5th, 2010, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Pine City. Visitation will take place 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the St. Joseph’s Calvary Cemetery of Beroun. Arrangements are with the Swanson Funeral Chapel of Pine City.
