Rush City

Alvin "Al" Eskuri of Rush City passed away Thursday, May 11, 2023 at his home at the age of 86.

Alvin Clarence Eskuri was born April 25, 1937 to Walter and Martha (Hill) Eskuri in Moose Lake, Minnesota.

Al was an athlete in high school and played football, basketball and was a pole vaulter on the track team; graduating in 1956, from Barnum High School. Al met his wife, Peggy, when his sister Laverna had invited Peggy over to spend the night. Al and Peg were married on June 20, 1963. They made their first home in St. Paul and eventually settled in Forest Lake to raise their three children: Deanna, Chad and Gary.

Al also enjoyed bowling and for many years. Al and Peg bowled in a mixed doubles league with Peg’s uncle Roy and his wife, Peg. Their team was aptly named the “Royal Pegs”. Before starting a family, Al joined the Navy and was stationed in Key West, Florida where he worked with sonar. He talked about waterskiing on the ocean with dolphins surfacing beside him. While Al was in the Navy, someone recognized that he had a good voice so he was called to introduce President Kennedy at a Navy function. Al was a self taught accordion player. He would play it almost every Friday or Saturday night, played in parades, and always broke it out for family gatherings where everyone loved to listen and dance.

Outdoor activities were Al’s favorite. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, spending time at the cabin and going for walks. He liked to keep things light and had a fun sense of humor. He was a grateful and kind person who loved his family.

Al is survived by his children Deanna Anderson of North Branch, Chad (Julie) Eskuri of Braham, Gary Eskuri (Amy Untiedt) of Vadnais Heights; grandchildren Ryan (Chelsea) Jacobson, Rachel Eskuri, Eric Eskuri, Kaitlin Eskuri, Jacob Eskuri; great-grandchildren Lyla and Lennox Jacobson; sister Shelby Eskuri of Blaine; brother Arnie (Judy) Isaacson of Moose Lake; brother-in-law Richard Shelton.
