Anda Brigita Kick

Anda Kick of Pine City passed away Friday, October 18, 2019 at her home at the age of 83.

Anda Brigita Kick was born on February 12, 1936, on a farm in Allaži, Latvia where she lived until the age of 8 years old. She and her family fled Latvia to escape the Russian invasion and communism in October of 1944.  They fled to northern Germany.  In 1945 after WWII was over Anda and her family lived in a displaced persons camp in Northern Germany.  In 1949 they immigrated to a farm near Hinckley Minnesota.  She completed her education and graduated from the Hinckley Public Schools in 1955.

Anda was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children, Sarma and Mark and embraced every moment with them.  She especially loved her role as Mama. She had a very vivacious personality and never met a stranger.  Her favorite job over her lifetime was serving as a public school bus driver because she loved being around children.  Anda loved to cook, sew, fish, and watch her Minnesota sports.  Most importantly, Anda’s life was a living example of Ephesians 4:32- “And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.”

Anda is survived by her daughter Sarma (Phillip) Burnau; grandchildren Blake Burnau, Morgan Burnau, Kelsey Shatava and Kadin Shatava; step-children Douglas (Kathy) Kick, Jeffrey (Laurie) Kick and Tracey Kick; 11 step-grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; sisters Anita (Lyndon) Petersen, Mara Libra and Ruta Janssen; many nieces, nephews and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents Arvids and Milda Kalnins; husbands Joseph Shatava Jr. and Clark Kick; son Mark Shatava; sister Sarma Kalnins.

Funeral services for Anda: 11 AM; Friday, October 25, 2019 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Pine City. A gathering of family and friends is planned one hour prior to the service at the church. The interment will take place at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Pine City.
