Barbara Jean Lindstrom

September 26, 1937 — February 10, 2024

Pine City

Barbara Lindstrom, life-long resident of the Pine City area, passed away Saturday, February 10, 2024 at Northern Pines Assisted Living at the age of 86.

Barbara Jean France was born September 26, 1937 to George and Lillian (Carlson) France at her grandparent's farm in West Rock, Minnesota. She lived in Pine City with her parents and a dog, Spotty, until 1943 when they moved to a farm in West Rock. She attended elementary school in Pine City through second grade and started third grade at the West Rock country school. She walked to school, two miles each way everyday with her good friends Jeannie and Gloria, come rain, sunshine or snow. While on the farm she did many chores such as gathering and washing eggs, pulling weeds, chopping wood, mowing lawn, and shoveling snow. She avoided going to the barn whenever possible because she had to paste herself against the wall to sneak past two enormous horses named Blackie and Dolly. In 1955, Barbara graduated from the Pine City  High School.

Following high school, she worked at Northwestern National Bank in Minneapolis for a year and then for Gillespie Motors in Pine City. In 1953, she met Jerry Lindstrom at the Pine County Fair, and they were married in 1958 at the United Methodist Church in Pine City.

In 1960, they purchased their home on 7th Street in Pine City where they raised their three children. Barbara enjoyed needle work of all types, working in her flower gardens, and refinishing furniture. She attended and volunteered in many capacities at the United Methodist Church and in later years at the First Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed spending time with and taking care of her grandchildren, and according to them she was a great storyteller. After Jerry's retirements they spent 16 winters as "snowbirds" in Apache Junction, Arizona where they enjoyed hiking, sightseeing, and visiting with many friends and relatives.

Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 65 years Jerry Lindstrom of Pine City; daughter Terri (Ed) Morse of Hayden, Idaho; sons Mark Lindstrom of La Mesa, California, Todd Lindstrom (Michelle Malley) of Rock Creek; grandchildren Nathan (Nicole) Lindstrom of Duluth, Megan Lindstrom (Aaron Wiggins) of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Christopher Morse of Rathdrum, Idaho; great grandson Skye Lindstrom; brother Dennis (Judy) France of Elk River; many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents George and Lillian France.
