Brenda Jo Carty (Bivens), age 72, of North Branch, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2026, surrounded by the love of those who cherished her.
She was born on November 1, 1953 to Everette and Lois (Lofink) Bivens in Red Bud, Illinois. She carried with her a warm spirit and a deep devotion to family throughout her life.
Brenda was a loving wife, sister, aunt, great aunt, great-great aunt and friend, whose kindness and steady presence touched many lives. She shared 23 wonderful years of marriage with her beloved husband, John Carty, who preceded her in death.
Brenda was a graduate of Granite City Senior High school in Granite City, IL before completing FAA training as an air traffic controller. Brenda later served as a negative engraver for the Defense Mapping Service where she completed a 20 year career.
Some of her greatest joys were experienced later in life. After relocating to Minnesota “Aunt B” as she was affectionately called, rediscovered her love of camping and the outdoors, adopted her dog Zoe and became a GG to her great-great niece, Liv Catherine.
Those who knew Brenda will remember her for her warmth, her caring nature, and the enduring strength she showed throughout her life. She valued simple moments, meaningful conversations, and the comfort of being surrounded by those she loved dearly. Her presence brought reassurance and warmth to family gatherings and everyday life alike, leaving lasting memories that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
She is lovingly survived by her brothers John Ray (Gale) Bivens and Stephen (Glenda) Bivens. Brenda was a proud and caring aunt to Catherine (Keith) Benolken, Renee (Rob) Finch, Jason (Alex) Bivens, and Stephen Paul Bivens. She held a special place in her heart for all of her nieces and nephews and treasured the time spent with her family.
Brenda was preceded in death by her parents Everette and Lois Bivens; husband John Carty; and nephew Morgan Bivens, all of whom she loved dearly and whose memories she carried close to her heart.
