Bruce Nelson, formerly of Pine City, passed away on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at the Good Samaritan Society in Maplewood, Minnesota.
Bruce Elvon Nelson was born on February 2, 1947, to Marvin and Lucinda (Long) Nelson in Kalispell, Montana, where his grandfather operated a logging business. While he was young, his family moved to San Jose, California, and later to Pine City, where he attended Pine City Schools. He graduated from Pine City High School in 1965.
At age 20, Bruce married his college classmate, Donna Mae Lewis, on September 2, 1967. They shared 48 years of marriage and deep companionship until Donna’s death in 2015.
Bruce was deeply involved in his community and was a longtime member of the Chamber of Commerce, Jaycees, Lions, and many charitable organizations. He also developed an interest in politics and ran for state office twice.
Known for his friendly nature, Bruce was a devoted husband, father, uncle, and friend to many. It was hard to go anywhere with him without stopping to visit someone.
Bruce is survived by his son, Bruce “Jr” Nelson of St. Paul; daughter, Sheila Nelson of Pine City; nephew, Jason (Piper) Sauter of Pine City; nieces, Amanda Root of Hinckley, Abby (John) Williams of Pine City; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Marvin and Lucinda Nelson; his loving wife, Donna Nelson; sister, Bette Root; nephew, Justin Root.
Pastors Tim Adams & Bruce Thompson will officiate at services for Bruce: 5 PM; Friday, June 26th at Journey North Church with 1 hour of visitation prior to the service.
