Carol Jean Benson

Carol Benson (Alguire) passed away peacefully in her home on Friday, May 15th at the age of 82.

Carol was born in Pine City, Minnesota on a cold January 18th day in 1944, bringing warmth to her family in Rock Creek, Minnesota. She was the youngest of four children born to Donald Sr. and Irene (Walton) Alguire.

Her school-age years brought her briefly to Virginia, Minnesota where her father Donald Sr. worked in the taconite mines there. The family later moved back to Pine City, Minnesota where Carol attended High School.

In 1960, Carol met Bob Benson and they were married on June 17, 1961. They eventually settled in Rock Creek and she quickly became a member of the Rock Creek Homemakers. In between raising four children, Carol enjoyed working various jobs in the community and enjoyed the friends she made along the way from managing the Pine City Country Club to Koppen's Snyder Drug. She was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, painted at the local ceramics studio, and also enjoyed getting together with many friends and family.

Carol is survived by her four children, Susan Benson, Sandra Benson, Marc Benson and Kirk Benson; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald Sr and Irene Alguire; beloved husband Robert (Bob) Benson; brothers Don (Gwen) Alguire and Jerry (Bernice) Alguire; and sister Betty (Art) Tacheny.

Carol’s Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM; Saturday, June 27, 2026 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church of Pine City. There will be a time of visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Funeral and Cremation Service of Pine City - Swanson Chapel.
