Carol Kuglin of Rush City passed away Monday, November 4, 2024 at Rushseba Station at the age of 90.
Carol Ann Jacoway was born October 27, 1934 to Delbert and Rose (Bartos) Jacoway at the University Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
The family lived in Eden Prairie where Delbert was a farmer. Her sister Jeanette was also born here. In 1942 the family moved to Rush City where Delbert and Rose bought a farm. Siblings Evelyn, Dale and Doug were born in Rush City. Carol went to a country school and walked two miles back and forth each day until the school closed and the school bus brought her and her siblings to the school in Rush City. She completed her schooling and graduated from Rush City High School. After high school Carol spent a summer working in Yellowstone Park and moved to Minneapolis where she lived with her sister and roommates. She worked at clerical positions for Investors Diversified Services and banks.
Carol met Robert Kuglin who had returned from service in the Air Force. The couple met at a dance hall on Lake Minnetonka. Carol and Bob were married in 1957 at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Rush City. They moved next door to Carol’s parents on the farm in Rush City. The couple had two daughters, Linda and Kathy and lived on the farm until 1971 when they built a new house down the road.
Carol planted many gardens and grew flowers and vegetables. She loved to feed the birds. She enjoyed sewing and made quilts for the grandchildren. She cooked big meals on holidays and loved having family over to celebrate. Carol and Bob had many dogs over the years and they were beloved companions. They took vacations at lake resorts in summer and liked to fish and sight see.
Carol’s favorite thing to do was to spend time with her grandchildren and nieces and nephews. There was always a game to be played, cookie to be shared and adventure to be had in the back yard. Carol and Bob lived in the house until Bob’s death in 2013 when she moved to the senior apartments in Rush City. Carol eventually moved to assisted living in Pine City and finally to memory care at Rushseba Assisted Living until her passing.
Carol is survived by her daughters Linda (David) Swanson, Kathy Emery; grandchildren Michael (Tanya) Swanson, Justin Swanson (Melody Kendrick), Ryan (Sammi) Swanson, Adriana (Brody) Wolf; great-grandchildren Joey Rae, Henry, Sunny, Ted, Moses, Willow, Maverick and Ella; siblings Jeanette (Ken) Spielman, Dale Jacoway, Douglas Jacoway; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Delbert and Rose Jacoway; husband Robert Kuglin; sisters Arlene Rose Jacoway, Evelyn Larter; sister-in-law Pauline Jacoway.
A private service was held at Carol’s request at the Olson Funeral Chapel in Rush City on Thursday, November 14 with interment in First Lutheran Cemetery, Rush City.
