Rush City

Carole Swanson of Rush City passed away Thursday, December 22, 2022 at her home surrounded by her loving family at the age of 85.

On September 16, 1937, Carole J. Swanson (Schmidt) was born at Bethseda Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota to Eugene and Doslyn Schmidt. She spent her childhood in St. Paul with her parents and 3 younger siblings: Dyanne, Eugene Jr. and William. She was blessed to grow up in a household where God and family were always first.

Carole graduated from St. Agnes High School in 1955. After high school she worked for the State of Minnesota, for the Department of Employment/Security. In 1956, while working for the State, Carole met Rodney Swanson. They were married in 1958 at Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Carole and Rodney lived in North St. Paul where they had 3 children: Eugene, Debora and Dorene. She worked part-time, her main focus was always being a wife and a mother raising her children. In 1972, they moved to the countryside of Rush City. They started a hobby farm on 40 acres where she enjoyed watching the calves and wildlife.

Carole also worked at the Rush City Hospital for 20+ years and few years for the City of Rush City. When she wasn’t working, Carole enjoyed cooking, gardening and crafting. Nothing brought her more joy them making homemade spaghetti sauce and meatballs for her family.

In 1982, Carole became a grandma. Through the years she was blessed with 3 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She loved spending time with family, some of the best memories are our family vacations in the RV. She spent her final years in her home with her husband and children by her side. She will be sadly missed.

Carole is survived by her husband Rodney Swanson of Rush City; son Eugene Swanson of Maplewood; daughters Debora Erickson, Dorene (Scott) Tryon all of Rush City; grandchildren Jerome (Ashley) Erickson of Pine City, Joshua (Jennie) Erickson of Grantsburg, WI, Jennifer (Trevor) Boblett of Blaine; great-grandchildren Kylee, Brynlee, Braydon, Theo Erickson; siblings Dyanne Haug, William Schmidt both of Maplewood; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Eugene and Doslyn Schmidt; brother Eugene Schmidt, Jr.
