Carrie M. Mallinger

November 29, 1925 — July 19, 2025

Rush City

Mallinger, Carrie M. Age 99 of Rush City, passed away July 19, 2025, 4 months shy of her 100th birthday.

Carrie was born and raised in Burtrum, MN. She was the fourth of 8 children born to Tom and Eva (Walker) Rosty. Her childhood featured a lot of singing and dancing. Her first job at age 15 was at Mickey’s Diner in St Paul. She met her future husband, Myron at a St. Paul dance hall in 1942. They loved to dance. They married on October 5,1943. They were blessed with nine children. They moved about in their early marriage, ultimately calling Rush City home-she was a homemaker, mother and farmer. They moved to St Paul around 1963, where Carrie worked different factory jobs through the years. She retired from Lindsay company at age 62. They enjoyed camping at KOA campgrounds in their motorhome- they made lifelong friends through their camping club.

After retirement, they became snowbirds, spending their winters at Mobile Home Villa in Donna,Texas and summers in MN. They returned to Minnesota full-time in 1994, when they bought the house in Rush City. After Myron passed away in July of 2008, Carrie was able to live in that home until the age of 96. She then moved into Rusheba Station Assisted living in Rush City, MN where she lived out the rest of her days.

Carrie most enjoyed spending time with her family. She stayed close with her siblings through their lives; and lived for time with her kids and grandkids, great-grandkids and great-great grandkids! Carrie enjoyed playing card games, crocheting, reading books and music. She was teased and blamed for her families premature gray hair, crying easily, and clumsiness. She also liked to cook (often on high, so it might have been burnt) and bake; she was often asked to bring dessert- angel food cake and chocolate cherry cake were a couple of her favorites.

Carrie is preceded in death by her parents Tom and Eva Rosty, her husband of 62 years, Myron, daughter Myrna Fitzgerald, sons-in-law Gary Behrendt and Robert McCauley, grandsons Todd Mallinger, Shawn McCauley and Erin McCauley, sisters Marjorie, Marie, Darline and Helen, brothers, Gordon and Carl.

She is survived by her sister Barbara (Dick) Emeott of Woodbury; children Marie McCauley of St Charles, MO, Joan Behrendt of Rush City, MN, Linda (Roland) Heley of Cottage Grove, MN, Mike (Connie) Mallinger of Cottage Grove, MN, Marcia (Butch) Auge of Frederick, WI, Mavis (Joe) Hughes of Big Lake, MN, Milo (Patti) Mallinger of Hugo, MN, Melvin (Karen) Mallinger of Maple Grove, MN; 15 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren (one more on the way!), 18 great-great grandchildren and counting. She leaves quite a legacy of love and laughter, and will be greatly missed by her family.

Rev. Grant Bode will officiate funeral services for Carrie 1:00 PM Friday (7/25/25) with visitation and reviewal 1 hour prior at St John’s Lutheran Church of Rush City.  Immediately following the funeral the family is providing a fellowship luncheon in the church dining area.  Interment will be at a later date in the Cottage Grove Cemetery in Cottage Grove, MN with Myron.
