Curtis Wayne Johnson, beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away at home in Spring Branch, TX, on June 1, 2025, with wife Virginia at his side, at age 90.

Curtis (Curt) was born March 5, 1935, in Albert Lea, MN, the second of six children to Willard and Florence (Dawson) Johnson. The family moved back to Pine City, MN, in the mid-1950’s.

Curt joined the U.S. Army at 19 years old in 1954 and retired 20 years later in 1974 with the rank of Sergeant First Class (E-7). He married Virginia (Delaney) Johnson on June 2, 1956, and they had two sons, Steven and Michael. Curt served an exemplary career with the Army Engineers, including two tours in Vietnam and one in South Korea.

After retiring from the Army, Curt held several jobs, including working 10 years as automotive toolroom manager at Pine Technical College in Pine City. Curt’s main hobby was wood working, where he made many beautiful lawn ornaments.

Curt and Virginia enjoyed traveling to both California and Texas to visit their sons. In 2019 they moved to Spring Branch, TX, to be closer to son Mike and his family.

Curtis is survived by wife Virginia; son Mike (Cheryl) all of Spring Branch, TX; sister Ione Storm of Pine City; grandchildren Monica Putka of Atlanta, GA, Katie (John) Johnson of Riverbend, CA, Shane (Brenda) Johnson of Lacey, WA, Jenna (Tyson) Billings of Colorado Springs, CO, Heather Hughes of Magnolia, TX, Tori MacFarlan of Richmond, TX, Paxton Barnes of Houston, TX; 12 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild.

He is preceded in death by his parents Willard and Florence Johnson; brothers Lawrence and Harvey; sisters Geraldine and Karen; son Steven; step-grandson John; great grandson Bobby Ray.

Interment will be at a later date.
