Dean Fredrick Martfeld, a man who built a life on hard work, community service, and caring for his loved ones, passed away at his home in Brook Park on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at the age of 82.
Dean was born on December 20, 1943, in Whited Township to Fred and Viola (Olson) Martfeld. Following his graduation from North High School in 1962, he was united in marriage to the love of his life Shirley Fore on May 8, 1965, at the Pine City Methodist Church. They began their life together in Minneapolis where Dean worked in construction. Then in 1969 they moved to Brook Park to raise their family and build their future.
Dean was a man who understood the value of hard work and a handshake. As the owner of Dean’s Service Station and later the founder of Overland Blacktopping, he was the person neighbors and friends turned to for help or a fair deal. His commitment to others extended well beyond his business; he was a dedicated volunteer for 33 years with the Brook Park Fire Department and a loyal member of the Brook Park Lions Club.
Beyond his professional life, Dean was defined by a legendary sense of humor and a slightly mischievous sprit that could brighten any room. Dean could often be found in the garage working on some new project, scouting flea markets or auctions, or enjoying time with family and friends. Dean was a devoted husband to Shirley for 61 years and a guiding light to his daughters. Nothing brought a bigger smile to his face, or a sharper sparkle to his eye, than his grandchildren, Evan and Addison.
He is survived by his loving wife Shirley; daughters Staci (Dale) Olson of Stanchfield, Michele (Wade) Sullivan of Isanti; grandchildren Evan and Addison Rothbauer; siblings Verla Donat, Audrey (Brian) Klande, Levi Martfeld; as well as several brothers/sisters-in-law; many nieces, nephews, other relative and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Fred & Viola Martfeld; in-laws Vernon & Dorothy Fore; sister Lila (Jack) Wilson, brother Gene (Puggy) Martfeld, sister Ardis (John) Nowling; sister Doretta (Pete) Leeb; brother-in-law Donald Donat.
A celebration of Dean’s life will be held 2:00-5:00 PM; Saturday, May 30th the Pine City American Legion Post #51.
