Deanna Delle “Deter” Mevissen, of Rush City, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 27, at CountrySide Living in Grasston, at the age of 82.
Deanna Delle Stelton was born August 28, 1944 to Ralph and Madeline (Rohrbeck) Stelton in Litchfield, Minnesota.
Deanna was a fun-loving, spirited woman with a generous heart and an easy way of making conversation with just about anyone. She had a gift for making people feel welcome, whether they were family, neighbors, longtime friends, or complete strangers.
She loved knitting and crocheting, playing bingo, and was an avid cribbage player. She also loved watching Alfred Hitchcock Hour with her dad, it being her particular favorite. She enjoyed trips to the casino as well. Her favorite slot machine was Buffalo.
Being on the farm, Deanna found immense joy in raising her own pigs. She treated them like pets, and each had a name, her favorite being Amber. Rosie also became a memorable part of the family story when, in 1975, she gave birth to an amazing 21 piglets. Deanna even owned two pot-bellied pigs.
Another great passion was NASCAR, particularly driver Jimmie Johnson. One of the family’s favorite stories came when Deanna found herself in the pits at Atlanta Motor Speedway. When she spotted Jimmie Johnson, she caught up with him and was very happy to get his autograph. It was a perfect example of Deanna’s enthusiasm for the things she loved.
While raising six children, Deanna also became something of the unofficial activity director of the neighborhood. Children from the surrounding area would pedal their bicycles to the Mevissen farm, knowing there was always something happening and plenty of fun to be had. The farm became a gathering place, and Deanna was right in the middle of it, creating memories for her children and many of the neighboring kids as well.
Above all, Deanna will be remembered for her lively spirit, generosity, determination, sense of humor, and willingness to take the time to talk with people. She enjoyed life in her own unique way and left behind countless stories that will continue to bring smiles and laughter to those who knew and loved her.
Her family will remember not only the things she loved, but the energy she brought to them — whether she was holding a pair of crocheting needles, playing a hand of cribbage, watching an Alfred Hitchcock show, cheering on Jimmie Johnson, caring for her beloved pigs, or organizing fun on the farm.
During the final year of Deanna’s (Dee’s) life, Kelli, Skylar, and Corey, along with her hospice aide, Karen, provided her with excellent care, comfort, and companionship. Deanna was deeply fond of each of them and truly grateful for the kindness, patience, and support they brought into her life. To Deanna, they were far more than caregivers and helpers; she considered them family. Her family will always be thankful for the care they gave her and for the important place they held in her heart.
Deanna’s life was filled with family, laughter, stories, and unforgettable moments. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
Deanna is survived by her children Bart Mevissen, Linda Mevissen both of Rush City, Greg (Angela) Mevissen of Georgia, Rechelle (Matt) Gagne of Arizona, Kristina (Jason) Katz of Danbury, Wisconsin; grandchildren Alissa Johnson, Brittany Mevissen, Carly Gosar, Dayna White, Connor Mevissen, Andrew Mevissen, Alison Zetah, Ashley Haider, Toni Mevissen, Georgia Hancock, Joey Shreve, Chloe Mevissen, Brooklynn Mevissen; 13 great-grandchildren; in-laws Rose McFall and Jerry Mevissen; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
