Andover

Doug Nelson of Andover passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at the age of 83.

Douglas David Nelson was born January 4, 1941 to Wallace and Beverly (Milliren) Nelson in Pine City, Minnesota.

He met the love of his life, Patricia Ordner, at a Rush City Town Team baseball game (introduced by cousin Barb) when he was 15 and she was 14. They dated throughout high school and married on June 27, 1959 when Doug was 18 and Pat was 17. They went on to have three boys - Kevin, Scott and Tracy.

Doug worked for Coca Cola in Pine City while he was growing up, then for Pillsbury for 10 years after he and Pat were married. He worked as a union carpenter and construction job superintendent with A.E. Conrad until his retirement in 2000.

Doug spent many weekends in Rush City at the St. Croix River, fishing with Uncle Bob and the Mugger. He loved hunting at the "deer shack" near Hibbing. He enjoyed several "trips of a lifetime" hunting out west to Wyoming, Montana, and British Columbia. He was an active member of the Minnesota Street Rod Association and Sedan Delivery. He loved his 1939 Chev!

In his later years Doug enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids.

Doug is survived by wife Pat Nelson of Andover; sons Kevin (Tammy) Nelson of Woodbury, Scott (Cris) Nelson and Tracy Nelson all of Andover; grandchildren Tiffany (Joel), Jake (Sarah), Sam (Blake), Taylor (Caleb), Hunter and Jack; great-grandchildren Ben, Emma, Ellie, Evie, Brayton, Saigelynn, Decker and Madden; siblings Jerry (Alice) Nelson of Rogers, Beverly (Tom) Webber of Rockford, Denny (Kathy) Nelson of Wisconsin, Rich (Wanda) Nelson of Scandia, Val (Tom) Keller of Maple Grove; brothers and sisters-in-law Dick (Bonnie) Ordner and Joe (Mary) Ordner all of Rush City, Bo Ordner of Columbus; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
