Elizabeth Kay Sterk

Elizabeth Sterk passed away peacefully October 5, 2026 at home in Rush City with her family, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

She was born October 27, 1973 in Vancouver, WA to John and Nancy (Hauger) Sterk. Shortly thereafter, the family moved to Gunnison, CO, where they were joined by her brother Peter. After a couple years in northern Minnesota, they settled in Rush City, MN in 1982.

Liz was a superb student, and was involved in many school and community activities. She graduated as Salutatorian in 1992, moving on to the University of Minnesota that fall. She enjoyed her time there, and made many friends. While in school, she began working at Depth of Field, her cousin’s futon and fabric stores. When she finished school, she continued to work there as the manager for many years, until the store closed in 2018.

Liz enjoyed music immensely, and performed most of her life. She participated In band and choir and many additional small group ensembles throughout high school, as well as attending several summer music camps. When she returned home, she joined her mother Nancy at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, performing in the choir while Nancy played organ and piano.

Family was extremely important to Elizabeth. She always made sure to keep track of everyone, and ensure they were taken care of and knew how much she cared. Liz made sure to stay in touch, and made many trips to spend time with family members near and far.

Elizabeth is survived by her father John Sterk; brother Peter Sterk, both of Rush City.

She was preceded in death by her mother Nancy Sterk.

There will be a Celebration of Elizabeth's Life from 4:00-7:00 PM; Friday, October 16, 2026 at the Olson Funeral Chapel of Rush City.
