Elsie "Arlene" Dahlberg

April 28, 1928 — June 14, 2024

Askov

Elsie "Arlene" Dahlberg passed away on Friday, June 14, 2024 in Askov, Minnesota, at the age of 96 years, 1 month, and 17 days.

Elsie Arlene Robinson was born April 28, 1928 to Elmer and Jessie (Emanuelson) Robinson at her family farm home in Rush City, Minnesota. She was the middle child with three brothers (Ronald, Raymond and John) and three sisters (Shirley, Sydney and Katy).

Arlene went to school at the Brickyard one room school house across the road from her home. Arlene then attended Rush City High School and graduated in 1947. After graduation Arlene went to St. Paul's School of Cosmetology. She then worked for The Golden Rule store in St. Paul in their beauty parlor.

In 1950 on July 1, Arlene was married to Vern Dahlberg at the First Lutheran Church in Rush City. On November 4, 1956, Arlene was both baptized and confirmed at Divinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in St. Paul.

Arlene quit her job and was a stay-at-home mom. They lived in St. Paul for over 30 years where they raised their family of three boys and four girls - Gary, Gail, Alan, Joanne, Robin, Marlene and Daniel.

During this time the Dahlberg family attended Divinity Lutheran Church in St. Paul. Arlene was active in Ladies Group and helped with the Girl's Group. Arlene spent many hours in the kitchen and helped wherever she could.

Arlene sewed most of her own and the kids' clothing. She taught her daughters to sew. She made many patch work quilts, knitted and did embroidery.

When Vern retired in 1981, he, Arlene and Dan moved to Rush City where they remodeled an old farm house. They then joined St. John's Lutheran Church. Arlene spent many hours in her gardens. She was a member of the altar guild at St. John's. Very often she would pick and arrange flowers for the Sunday worship service. She attended the afternoon Ladies Bible Study for years.

Her husband Vern had a home wood workshop and after they retired Arlene learned to use the saws to cut out craft projects. She found out she liked to paint wood craft and painted many things. Arlene was known for her home-made breads and pastries. Store bought bread was not even thought about in her house. She taught her daughters to bake bread, too. Arlene also enjoyed taking the dogs for a run as she drove her ATV around their property.

After almost 63 years of marriage, Vern died in 2013. On Arlene's 95th birthday in 2023 she moved to Askov, Minnesota to live with her eldest son, Gary. Of course, Gary was then taught to bake bread. They spent their evenings playing cribbage, watching Andy Griffith, and eating ice cream.

Arlene is survived by her children Gary Dahlberg of Askov, Gail (Jim) Callinan of Oakdale, Alan Dahlberg of Mora, Joanne (Keith) Hopkins of Hinckley, Robin Johnson of North Branch, Marlene (Steve) Andrus of Oakdale, Daniel (Deb) Dahlberg of Rush City; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Carol Robinson of Melrose.

She was preceded in death by her parents Elmer and Jessie Robinson; husband Vern Dahlberg; granddaughter Katy Callinan; brothers Raymond Robinson, Ronald (Jean) Robinson, John Robinson; sisters Shirley (John) Adams, Katy Schumway, Sydney (Ed) Carlson; daughters-in-law Loretta Dahlberg, Victoria Dahlberg.

Reverend Jacob Gillard will officiate at Arlene's funeral service: 10:30 AM; Friday, June 21, 2024 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Rush City. A gathering of family and friends is planned for one hour prior to the service at the church. The interment will take place in First Lutheran Cemetery, Rush City.
