Francis "Dick" Richard Gibson

January 21, 1930 — August 6, 2018

Francis “Dick” Richard Gibson was born January 21, 1930 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was the second child to Frank and Dorothy (Lau) Gibson. Dick joined his wife Ann, son Joe, sisters Rita and Grace, parents, niece Kathy, great-niece Abby and sister-in-law Erin in Heaven on Monday, August 6, 2018 at the age of 88.

Dick grew up in Rosemount and attended Rosemount public schools until his graduation in 1947. Dick then joined the United States Air Force. During that time he had basic training in San Antonio, Texas. He attended radio school for nine months after which he was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska. Dick loved Alaska and often spoke about his time there.

In 1952, after his military service Dick began working for Northern Natural Gas as a surveyor until his retirement in 1986. He surveyed the pipeline from Farmington to Duluth.  Dick had many wonderful friends at Northern and truly enjoyed his job.

In 1960, Dick came to Rush City where he met Ann McGuire. In 1964, they were married at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rush City. They raised four children in the home they shared for the rest of their lives.

As an active member of Sacred Heart, Dick was a lector, often led the Rosary and spent time at Adoration. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion.

Dick loved the outdoors. He spent time canoeing, fishing, bird watching and taking long rides to Crex Meadows with family and friends. Dick’s true passion was hunting. He had a great appreciation for guns. To this day, anytime we smell gun oil, we remember our dad sitting at the kitchen table carefully cleaning his guns.

Dick was a wonderful person. We will miss him deeply. We love you dad.
