Our beloved mother, Gail S. Mattison, 80, passed away on March 20, 2026, surrounded by her family.
Gail Susanne Ness was born September 16, 1945 to Willie and Pearl (Hagen) Ness in St. Paul, Minnesota. She was a graduate of Johnson High School in St Paul, MN, in 1963.
Gail enjoyed many years bookkeeping at the local Coca-Cola plant, moving into working with the disabled at Brighter Day, and Volunteers of America. She was a member of the Pine City Area Lions, volunteering at the Cancer Harbor Room, and an active member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.
Gail enjoyed spending time at her family’s cabin, camping, ice skating, and knitting. She was a passionate and loving mother of her two children, cheering them on at softball games, and at the racetrack through the years. She was a devoted Grandmother and Great grandmother.
Gail is survived by her children Carmen Mattison and David (Barbara) Mattison all of Pine City; grandchildren Tabitha (Jeremiah) Pickett, Brandon (Kaitlyn) Mattison, Carter Mattison; great-grandchildren Valerie, Cesilie, Christian; brother-in-law John Cashin, Sr.; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents Willie and Pearl Ness; siblings Jack (Karen) Ness, Wilma Cashin; and nephews John Cashin, Jr. and Danny Cashin.
Reverend John Stiles will officiate a memorial service for Gail: 11 AM; Saturday, April 11, 2026 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Pine City. A time of visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 PM Friday (4/10) at the Swanson Funeral Chapel in Pine City, and in addition one hour prior to the service at the church. The family invites friends to celebrate a life well-lived.
