George Gerald Granroth

Mar 31, 1951 — Oct 7, 2026

Rush City

George Gerald Granroth was born March 31, 1951 in Grand Rapids, MN to Elmer and Drusilla (Kangas) Granroth.  He passed away Wednesday, October 7, 2026 following an auto accident, at Regency Hospital in Golden Valley at the age of 75.

George lived a life defined by hard work, deep devotion to his family, and a simple, joyful appreciation for the world around him. A graduate of Greenway High School in 1969, George went on to earn his degree in Tool and Die Making from Staples Technical Institute. His exceptional skill and work ethic led to a dedicated career in precision manufacturing, including notable years with Onan and Tenere.

On May 6, 1972, he married his beloved wife, Marcia. Together, they made their home in Ham Lake for over 45 years before later relocating to Rush City, always keeping a bountiful garden and enjoying the tradition of home canning wherever they lived.

Above all else, George was a devoted father whose proudest role was supporting his children. Rain or shine, he was an unwavering presence in the stands and their #1 fan.

An avid outdoorsman, George was happiest hunting, fishing, or spending time in nature. He held a deep pride in his Finnish heritage, especially enjoying the simple comfort and tradition of a true sow-na. He loved the quiet challenge of a good puzzle, the friendly atmosphere of a local meat raffle, and taking family vacations. A true Elvis Presley fan, George loved the King of Rock and Roll and the music that brought him joy. He was a passionate sports enthusiast who loved wrestling and remained a lifelong, faithful fan of the Minnesota Twins and Vikings.

George’s quiet strength, warmth, and steady presence will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who loved him.

George is survived by his children Craig Granroth (Jenny Padelford) of Oak Grove, Jason Granroth of St. Paul, Laura (Brent) Stavig of Rush City; grandchildren Kayla Granroth, Haley Stavig, Logan Granroth, Leah, Kennedy, Addison Stavig; great grandchildren Adelyn, Camdyn; siblings Kathy (Doug) Cook of South Dakota, Kim (Greg) Malone of Wadena, Carol (Rick) Walczak of Duluth, Keith (Tricia) Granroth of New Richmond, WI.
