Gerald "Jerry" Arthur Dick

February 4, 1938 — December 25, 2019

Gerald “Jerry” Arthur Dick passed away December 25, 2019 on Christmas evening at Welia Hospital, Mora, Minnesota at the age of 81.  Just five days after being diagnosed with stomach cancer.

Gerald Arthur Dick was born February 4, 1938 to Arthur and Pearl (Dorrow) Dick in St. Paul, Minnesota and was their only child.  He grew up in and around Centuria, Wisconsin. He often loved to play outside with family pets or go fishing in local ponds or streams. As he started growing older he established a passion for hot rods. By the time he was just 15 years old Jerry had his first pride and joy a Model A that he turned into a rat rod.

A few years went by and he enlisted into the United States Army around 1960.  During the Vietnam War he was stationed in Alaska as a gunner sergeant; earning many Marksmanship awards.   He also somehow found the time to work as a ski instructor.  After his honorable discharge from the Army Jerry returned home and it wasn‘t difficult for him to make a living or keep himself busy with some sort of fun. Many people describe Jerry as a jack-of-all-trades.  Through the years he had many different careers; truck driver, moving company owner/operator, car mechanic, electrician with the traveling Ballmann Brothers Carnival.  While employed with the carnival he created the “Swinging Jim” carnival ride; he was so very proud of that ride.

In 2007, Jerry retired after a bad semi-accident; he didn’t let that slow him down. Jerry loved to travel throughout the United States with his kids. His favorite trip was in 2003 to Alaska when the B25 Miss Mitchell was flown there.  Jerry dedicated 25 plus years volunteering for the Commemorative Air Force where he never knew a stranger; Jerry was loved by everyone and hated by none. He will forever be remembered in our hearts.

Jerry is survived by his seven children: Jeff (Lonnie) Dick, Mark (Michelle) Dick, Kim (Bill) Class, Kelly (John) Knuze, Michael (Sarah) Dick, Lori (Dean) Dopkins and Jonathan (Robyn) Morrow; 29 grandchildren; great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death his parents Arthur and Pearl Dick, two sisters Vivian and Joyce, a beautiful loving daughter Melissa Malynn Dick and grandson Bentley Remington Morrow.
