Jerry Weis Sr. passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at his home in Hinckley at the age of 82.
Gerald Edward Weis was born on December 24, 1937 to Carl G. and Louise A. (Mohr) Weis in Pine City, Minnesota. During his childhood, he helped farm with his Pa and nearby relatives. He had many fond memories of haying and chopping corn with those relatives.
In 1959, he met the love of his life, Doris DuVall. They were married on October 22, 1960 in Pine City. Jerry served in the United States Army from 1961-1963. In 1963, they settled in Pine City where they began to raise their three children: Gerald Jr., Laurie and Bryan.
Jerry was employed as a machinist all his life. He worked for: Matson Electric of Pine City, McNally's Manufacturing of Grantsburg, Wisconsin and Atscott Manufacturing in Pine City; retiring after 48 years at Atscott.
Jerry's second love was hunting and fishing. Jerry loved to hunt anything from squirrels to antelopes. In his final deer season at the age of 80, he bagged a beautiful 6 pointer. He enjoyed an antelope hunting trip with one of his grandsons to Wyoming. There were numerous fishing trips with his sons, grandsons, other relatives and close friends to Lake of the Woods, Big Sandy and Lake Michigan to just to name a few.
Jerry was made of brass and steel, only until you got to know him. He loved to joke around and usually always had a one-liner come back. Those closest to him got to experience a man with a huge heart.
Jerry is survived by his children Jerry Jr. (Yvette) Weis of Hinckley, Laurie (Jerome) Plessel of Pine City, Bryan (Denise) Weis of Grasston; grandchildren Jessica (Jacob) Persson, Aaron (Jordan) Weis, Nicholes (Charisse) Tavernier, Ashley (Tyler) Lakeberg, Joshua (Bailey) Weis; step grandchildren Shanelle (Jerry) Saunders, John (Rachael) Dube, Ryan Fitzsimmons (Brooklyn Peterson); great-grandchildren Laken, Corbin and Berkley Persson, Hayden Weis, Tanner, Chloe, Nathan and Raymond Tavernier, Owen and Britta Lakeberg, Lillian Weis; step great-grandchildren Charlotte and Amelia Fitzsimmons, Wren Saunders; sister Shirley Ingvalson; many other relatives and friends.
