Gladys Leona Haugrud

Gladys Haugrud was freed from her pain and failing body on Friday, August 18, 2023 at the age of 88 with her family by her side. She recently moved to Rushseba Station in Rush City on July 11, 2023.

Gladys Leona Nelson was born November 6, 1934 to Theodore and Annie (Veritzan) Nelson in Ulen, Minnesota. She lived with her parents and 7 siblings in the Detroit Lakes and surrounding areas. She most recently has been a resident of Rush City.

On June 17, 1952, Gladys married George E. Haugrud in Rollag, MN. In 1953, they moved to the Coon Rapids area and in 1965 they moved to a hobby farm south of Rush City. After George's death in 1998, she met and married Dale L. Olson and they resided in Cambridge until 2012. She then bought a twin home in Rush City to be near her family.

Gladys was employed by Hillcrest Heath Care Center in Rush City for several years. After retiring, she and George did part-time cleaning at Dennis Kirk in Rush City. She enjoyed her family, flowers, playing cards and dancing with George and their friends on Saturday nights at local ballrooms. Gladys was a longtime member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rush City for more than 55 years.

Gladys is survived by her children Debra Jacobson of North Branch (Mike Schuett of Emily), Geoffrey "Jeff" (Sharry Schusted) Haugrud of Pine City, Mitch (Jill) Haugrud of Modesto, CA, Craig (Susan) Haugrud of Rush City, Kevin (Lisa) Haugrud of Harris; grandchildren Jaime (Lisa Logue) Jacobson, Derek (Timarie) Jacobson, Garrett (Abbie) Haugrud, Leanne (Jameson) Burkman, Matthew (Allyson) Haugrud, Trevor (Katie Koppy) Haugrud, Travis (Sara) Haugrud, Kyle Haugrud, Lily Haugrud; great-grandchildren Jaylyn, Braylee and Bryson Jacobson, Lucas Logue, Rowan, Everett and Zoe Burkman, Preston Farley, Eden Haugrud, Myles and Haylie Haugrud, Tucker and Tessa Haugrud; sisters Mary (Rod) Cusey of Buffalo, MN, Violet Carothers of Lynwood, WA; brother Raymond (Peggy) Nelson of Lindstrom; extended family, many nieces, nephews, friends, especially card club friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Ted and Annie Nelson; husbands George Haugrud and Dale Olson; infant son Gregory Haugrud; infant grandson Justin Jacobson; son-in-law James Jacobson; siblings Melvin, Marvin and Annabelle Nelson, Pearl Hammer.

Pastor Nathan Baker-Trinity will officiate at funeral services for Gladys: 2 PM; Monday, August 28, 2023 at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rush City. A time of visitation and reviewal is planned from 6-8 PM; Sunday (8/27) at the Olson Funeral Chapel in Rush City and also one hour prior to the service at the church. The interment will take place in the First Lutheran Cemetery, Rush City.
