Harriet was born in Bandon Township, Renville County, near Fairfax, MN, on September 30, 1932, the firstborn of eight children, to Peter and Evelyn Prax. The family eventually moved to Pine City, where Harriet met and married Robert "Mickey" Teich. Harriet and Mickey farmed and raised 5 children. In the late 60s, Harriet started her years of working for the Pine City School District at various jobs. One of her favorite memories was her time spent working in the lunchroom. She didn’t mind when students called her “the warden”, since to her, it meant she was doing her job.
Harriet and Mickey sold the farm in 1976 and built a house on a few acres nearby. Harriet continued working for the school district in clerical positions, as well as running the duplicating center and selling tickets at many school events. Harriet transferred to a position at Pine Technical College, retiring as the Bookstore Manager in 1998.
Harriet traveled many miles in the motor home with Mickey and their son, Mark. Great memories were made exploring the beautiful areas out west, with Lake Louise and Glacier National Park being a couple of her favorites. She enjoyed the outdoors, especially watching the birds and tending to her plants and flowers. Attending tractor shows throughout the state was a favorite pastime, since she was an avid Oliver tractor enthusiast. After Mickey’s death in 2005, Harriet was able to stay on the home place with Mark’s help. During the last few years, Lilly, her faithful dog, has been her constant companion.
Harriet is survived by her children Mitchell and his wife Twylah, Pam Wiener and her husband, Steve, Valerie Stumne and her husband, Steve, Susan Pixley, and Mark Teich; 10 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; sister Claire Prior and her husband Ron; brothers Michael Prax and his wife Val, Dwayne Prax and his wife Mary; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
