James Clark Larson

April 5, 1942 — April 21, 2021

Jim Larson was born in Cleveland, Ohio; April 5, 1942 to Walter and Elizabeth (Clark) Larson. He grew up in the Duluth/Superior area, attending and graduating from East High School in Superior. Jim was married to Carol Lukarila on June 25, 1960 in Pine City, Minnesota. Three Larson brothers (Jim, Bill and Dick) married three Lukarila sisters; (Carol, Margaret and Mary Pat). Jim and Carol’s family grew with the addition of Donna, Chris, Mark and Deborah.

Growing up in a family with a strong work ethic, Jim immersed himself early in making a living. He joined a carpentry apprenticeship program and worked in carpentry for several years in the area. Jim had natural talent in sales; he used his sense of humor and persuasive ability to his advantage. Even as a youth, Jim outsold his cub scout buddies at fundraising events. So, it was no surprise when Jim became a car dealer by purchasing a car lot in North St. Paul, Minnesota. He sold cars to dealerships and worked in sales at Polar Chevrolet. In later years, Jim owned and operated the Hugo Car Sales and the Harris Car lot.

A true entrepreneur, Jim built and operated both the Harris Country Store and Rock Creek Marathon stations. Starting in the 1990’s and throughout Jim’s life, he also purchased and managed rental property. His latest commercial purchases being the Caldwell Banker and MSC auto buildings in Rush City.

Jim is survived by his children Mark Larson of Rush City, Donna Larson of Waubun, Deborah Larson of Pine City; 8 grandchildren; former wife Carol Larson of Pine City; siblings Bill (Muggs) Larson of Cloquet, Gary (Judy) Larson of Ankeny, Iowa, Jeff (Darla) Larson, Wally Larson all of South Range, WI, Nancy (Bob) Drallmeier of Glenwood City WI; brother-in-law Steve Hull of Glenwood City, WI; many nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Elizabeth Larson; son Christopher Larson; brothers Dave Larson, Dick Larson, Tom Spooner; sister Loretta Hull.

Deacon Gene Biever officiated at funeral services for Jim; Saturday, May 1, 2021 at the Swanson Funeral Chapel in Pine City.
