Joan Carol Kubesh

January 1, 1945 — May 23, 2020

Joan Kubesh of Pine City passed away May 23, 2020 at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale at the age of 75.

Joan Carol Bergwick was born January 1, 1945 to Christ and Louise (Van Horn) Bergwick at Lakeside Hospital in Pine City, Minnesota.  Joan and her twin brother John were the first babies born in the New Year.  She attended school at Northstar School #42 and later continued on to Pine City High School; graduating in 1962.  Joan began her working career as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell and worked part-time as lunch lady at the Pine City Elementary School, but her main love was farming.

On October 22, 1966, she married the love of her life Eugene Kubesh and two years later they began their family.  Throughout the years she raised four children; Kevin, Tammy, Ron and Curt.  Not to mention a few extra’s that would come to stay and call her mom.

Joan loved to farm and there was not an animal on the place that did not have a name, from McGee the rooster, Curly the sheep, Dolly, Tiny and Ready Whip the cows, Hector the pig, Chester the goat.  The list could go on forever.  Joan was like the Dr. Doolittle of animals.  She loved her animals and they loved her, from a swarm of barn cats, dogs, and miscellaneous other animals.  It was not uncommon to find a herd of pets following her as she did her chores or taking a walk to get the mail.  When she took a part-time job at Pamida, it was not uncommon to find a horse waiting at the end of the driveway for her to return or find Gomer the Doberman crying on her side of the bed.  All animals were welcome.

Joan enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.  It started in 2000 with Hunter.  It was nothing to see the two of them out looking at flowers, planting plants or just enjoying nature.  She loved to garden and always had a huge garden to tend.  Her passion for plants has passed on to Hunter, so her legacy will continue, along with her love for chickens.  Sami soon joined our family later in 2000.  She so enjoyed having both kids running around with her on her daily excursions.  In 2006, Nikko and Tucker joined the crew and grandma and grandpa could not have been happier.  In 2008, Averee and in 2009, Jenna and Brenton joined the family to grandma’s delight.

Joan never stopped making new friends or lending a helping hand to anyone in need.  She enjoyed attending church.  Her most enjoyable time was spent with her husband Gene, her children, her grandchildren, family and friends and reminiscing with everyone.

Joan is survived by her daughter Tamara Tricas (Dan Haavisto) of Pine City, sons Ron Kubesh (Jessie Kettler) of Hinckley, Curt (Aimee) Kubesh of Pine City; grandchildren Jenna Kubesh, Brenton Kubesh, Hunter Kubesh, Sami Kubesh, Nikko Tricas, Tucker Kubesh, Averee Kubesh; great grandchild Kylie Kubesh; brothers John (Sandy) Bergwick, Roy Bergwick; sister Evelyn Jewel, sister-in-law Sharlene (Ron) Hanson all of Brook Park; brother-in-law Archie (Joyce) Kubesh of River Falls, Wisconsin; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents Christ & Louise Bergwick; husband Eugene Kubesh; son Kevin Kubesh; father-in-law Frank Kubesh; mother-in-law Viola Kubesh Johnson; brother-in-law Eugene Jewell.
