John Soukup of North Branch passed away Monday, August 12, 2019 at Ecumen of North Branch at the age of 77.
John Adolph Soukup was born March 7, 1942 to Adolph and Frances (Van Horn) Soukup in Mission Creek Township, Pine County, Minnesota.
John enjoyed working on the farm in his teenage years. He enlisted in the United States Navy at the age of 17 where he served for 3 ½ years. John married Shirley in 1963 and together they had three children: Kevin, Rochelle and Johnny. They were married for ten years.
In 1975, John married Sandra and became a stepfather Sandra’s four children; Scott, Debra, Michele and Daniel. In John’s early years he worked a variety of jobs to pay his way through school to become a mechanical designer. He retired from this profession at the age of 69. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping and riding ATV’s. John grew in his faith and loved the Lord, Jesus Christ as his savior. He will be dearly missed and never forgotten by his family and friends.
John is survived by his wife Sandy Soukup; children Scott Olson of Ramsey, Debra (Bob) Scheele of Rush City, Kevin Soukup of Minneapolis, Michelle Miller of Stanchfield, Rochelle Soukup of Anoka, Dan (Jessie) Miller of Rush City, John (Nicky) Soukup of Forest Lake; grandchildren Chaz Miller, Zachary (Torri) Scheele, Elwood Trantanella, Blaine Scheele, Jacob Trantanella (Emily), Josaphine Trantanella, Gage Miller, Vincent Scheele, Vincent Soukup, Maxwell Soukup; great-granddaughter Lacey Scheele; siblings Adolph “Butch” (Renae) Soukup of Quamba, Frank (Terry) Soukup of Cambridge, Rocky Kuroski; many nieces, nephews and friends.
John is preceded in death by his parents Adolph and Frances Soukup; sisters Rosemary Soukup, Maryann Filipi, Margie Michael; granddaughters Lacey Scheele, Sarah Soukup and Hailey Miller.
Pastor Dennis Eng and Pastor Caroline Harthun-Wooldridge will officiate funeral services for John: 11 AM; Friday (8/16/19) at the First Lutheran Church of Harris. A time of visitation and reviewal planned from 5-8 PM Thursday (8/15/19) at the Olson Funeral Chapel in Rush City and also one hour prior to the service at church. The interment will take place at the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery of Rush Lake. Military honors will be provided by the United States Navy, Grothe-Jacobson VFW Post #6692 and the Rush City American Legion Post #93.
