Obituary

June V. Roubinek passed away Saturday, October 3rd , 2026, at Timber Pines in Pine City. Her 98 years of life provide an example of how to get the most out of your skills and talents. She was a person that possessed great determination and a willingness to accept the challenges that life gives you and keep moving forward.

June was born on July 9, 1928, to Gene and Victoria (Ambrose) Jacobson. June spent most of her childhood growing up on what became the Jacobson family farm located on the North Road east of Pine City. June helped with farm chores, cared for her younger siblings (Adeline, Gerald, Beverly, and Karen), and graduated from Milburn School. When June became a young adult, she ventured out and spent time working as a housekeeper and a technician at National School Studio, both in the Minneapolis area.

She met and later married Edward J. Roubinek on June 28, 1953. She was attracted to Ed’s sense of humor and immaculately polished and washed car. In 1954 their first son Steven arrived, and they moved into their permanent home at 835 6 th Street in Pine City. Though the house needed some work, it had electricity, plumbing, and an indoor bathroom. June made this her home for approximately 71 years. In 1959, their second son, Mark, arrived and their family was set. Throughout the 1950s, 60s, and 70s, June raised her boys, tended the home, and taught herself how to do the bookkeeping for the repair shop, Roubinek Motors.

June possessed many talents. She was an excellent cook, wonderful baker, and skilled at nurturing flowers. She was always good with detailed work---whether making perfectly shaped cookies, trying her hand at painting by numbers, or balancing her account books to the penny. She also had a knack for saving money. She believed strongly in using what you had until it had seen its “better days,” always putting some money aside for a “rainy day,” and “saving some for tomorrow.” Those were useful traits she learned growing up during the Depression and running a small business with her husband Ed.

In retirement, June enjoyed (most of the time) taking road trips with Ed in the “Hippie Van” (and HI-LO trailer), working at church functions, and spending quiet time at home. She enjoyed: keeping up on the news/politics, reading the “Lutheran Digest” and recipe books, rejuvenating her dormant flowers after the long winter, waiting for her house wren to appear each May, and doing countless Word Finds. She frequently ventured out on the community bus with her traveling companions---June Jacobson and Betty Bonk. June loved baking date cookies for the church Christmas cookie sale and making her famous “Watergate” and peach salads for the church salad luncheons. Her cooking secret--- add a little sugar if something didn’t taste quite right. When she served at the Presbyterian Women’s meetings or after church on Sundays, it was always brownies and ice cream. No one ever complained.

She is survived by her sons Steve (Adrienne) Roubinek and Mark (Sue Stefanich) Roubinek all of Pine City; grandchildren Jacob (Amanda) Roubinek of Sandstone and Noelle Roubinek of Maplewood; great-grandchildren Edward Roubinek and Isaac Roubinek; sisters Beverly (Pat) Radniecki of Minneapolis and Karen (Phil) Craig of Mankato; sister-in-law Nancy Jacobson of Frederic, Wisconsin; and several nieces and nephews.

June was proceeded in death by her parents Gene and Victoria Jacobson; husband Edward Roubinek; brother Gerald Jacobson, baby brother Peter; the infant triplets; and sister Adeline (Russell) Zastera.

Pastor Rob Spahr will officiate funeral services for June at 11 AM; Saturday, November 14, 2026 at the First Presbyterian Church in Pine City with a time for visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. A luncheon and a graveside burial will follow. Interment will take place at the Birchwood Cemetery in Pine City.
