Keith Gustafson passed away Friday, February 6, 2026 at his home in Rock Creek at the age of 76.
Keith Byron Gustafson was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on February 11, 1949 to two wonderful parents, Virgil and Adelaine (Nelson) Gustafson, who also gave Keith three great brothers (Dwight, Kim, and Marc).
He graduated from Minneapolis Roosevelt in 1967. He then attended Bemidji State for three years until he ran out of money! He went to work for a manufacturing company (Wendell's Incorporated) as an inside salesman in 1970. He worked his way up to VP/General Manager and bought the company in 1989.
Keith sold the company in 1993 and semi-retired to Pine City, purchasing the Dairy Queen and an 80 acre hobby farm where they raised sheep and horses. He sold the Dairy Queen after 14 seasons and for the next several years he and Mary spent their time traveling, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and playing golf.
Keith met his wonderful wife, Mary (Brustad) in high school and they were married in 1970. Together they raised four great kids (Sara, Grady, Joel and Peter) and three equally great grandchildren (Bethany, Christian, and Gunnar) and the sweetest great-granddaughter (Irene).
Keith said, "I had a wonderful life with few regrets! I gave my life to Jesus Christ when I was 11 years old and am overjoyed to be with Him now! If I can leave you all with one piece of advice it's this: Give your life to Christ, and then, in everything you do, give it your best shot. Then just maybe you too can live a fulfilling life with few regrets, as I did!"
Keith, a good man, will be forever loved and greatly missed.
Keith is survived by his wife Mary Gustafson of Rock Creek; children Sara Maki of Grasston, Grady Gustafson, Joel Gustafson both of Pine City, Peter Gustafson of Barnum; grandchildren Bethany, Chris and Gunnar; great-granddaughter Irene; brothers Dwight Gustafson of Pine City and Kim Gustafson of Hinckley; other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents Virgil and Adelaine Gustafson; and brother Marc Gustafson.
Reverend John Stiles and Pastor Jared Gustafson will officiate funeral services for Keith: 11:30 AM; Monday, February 16, 2026 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Pine City. A time of visitation and reviewal will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Keith will be interred at Johnson Memorial Cemetery in Rock Creek later in the day.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to: Funeral and Cremation Service of Pine City, Swanson Chapel.
