Lorraine "Lu" Victoria Marty

January 2, 1941 — August 10, 2025

Rush City

Lorraine “Lu” Victoria (Anderson) Marty of Rush City passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2025, at the age of 84, in Pine City, MN.

Lorraine was born in rural Rock Creek on January 2, 1941, the last of four children born to Clarence and Victoria (Okerson) Anderson. Alongside Doris, Duane, and Margaret, she grew up on the Government Road north of Rush City and helped on the homestead by driving tractor and other chores.

Lorraine graduated from Rush City High School in 1959. She married Gaylon Marty in 1960 and joined Gordon and Margaret Marty on the Marty Farms (two brothers married two sisters). Gaylon and Lorraine were blessed with two children, Jonathan and Carolyn. Lorraine worked a short time at the Rush City Hospital and later as a dietary aid at Hillcrest Health Care Center in Rush City. Gaylon and Lorraine were active members of the Pine City Evangelical Free Church and made many lasting friendships there.

Lorraine enjoyed driving tractors (Big Red was her favorite on the farm) and was proud of it. She admired nature and enjoyed traveling, and there are many hand-made photo albums to prove it. She loved her collie dogs and had several other kinds of dogs over the years. She spoiled each one. Throughout her life, Lorraine sang, played accordion and piano, and loved to listen to bluegrass and Scandinavian music. After Gaylon suffered a farm accident in 1991, Lorraine retired from Hillcrest to spend their remaining years together. They placed their camper at Bent Trout Lake Campgrounds outside of Barnum, MN, and named their spot the Arctic Riviera. They enjoyed many campfires, walks, and visits to small towns nearby. Later in life, Lorraine enjoyed puzzles to keep her mind sharp and murder mysteries to keep her guessing.

Born with hip dysplasia, Lorraine was technically handicapped, but to those around her, she seemed like she could do anything she set her mind to. Standing at 4’ 11”, she was a strong, stoic Swede. She was also generous and kind. She loved to laugh and giggle, especially at Looney Tunes cartoons. She kept her sense of humor and love of God throughout her life.

Lorraine is survived by her children, Jonathan (Rachel) Marty of Rush City and Carolyn (Kristi Roen) Marty of Austin, TX; grandchildren Jacob (Julie) Marty of New Hope, Jeremy (Megan Hartley) Marty of Lino Lakes, Joshua (Samantha) Marty of Farmington, and Justin (Christine) Marty of Cloquet; great-grandchildren Sophia, Thomas, and Laura Marty, Noah and Oliver Marty, Liam, Rowan, and Greyson Hartley, Nathan and Jay Marty, and Jackson Marty; sister Margaret (Anderson) Marty; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Victoria Anderson; husband Gaylon Marty; an infant son; grandparents; sister Doris (Anderson Behrendt) Wolf; brother C. Duane Anderson; sister/brothers-in-law Judy (Nys) Anderson, Gordon Marty and Dean Madison.
