Lowell W. Bliss of Eden Prairie, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away at home, surrounded by his family, on May 26, 2025, at the age of 89, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on March 11, 1936, in Greeley, MN, to Ernest and Eunice (Swanson) Bliss, Lowell's life was marked by his wisdom, adventurous spirit, and deep faith.
After serving his country in the United States Army's 290th Engineer Combat Battery at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, where he earned a sharp-shooter qualification and was a member of the traveling billiards and table tennis teams, Lowell graduated from the University of Minnesota, in Minneapolis, with a degree in finance and accounting and went on to obtain his CPA license.
Lowell began his career in public accounting at KPMG, before transitioning to a finance executive role at Minnesota Fabrics. He was one of the founders of the Quarterback Club, a chain of restaurants, and then worked in commercial real estate, where he developed retail, office, and warehouse projects.
Lowell was an all-conference athlete, and played multiple sports at Rush City High School. Throughout his later life he enjoyed a wide variety of activities such as golf, skiing, biking, camping, and racquet sports. He built a beautiful cabin for his family, and spent summers boating, reading, and singing with his guitar around the campfire.
When not at the cabin, Lowell took his family on mountain-skiing and tropical-snorkeling vacations, and also obtained his Bareboat Captain's license. His international travels with Jeanine, and their friends, took them to many corners of the globe.
Lowell's legacy is carried on by his loving wife of nearly 61 years, Jeanine (Bogart) Bliss; daughters Kirsten Smith and Juliet Bliss; adoring grandchildren Jared Smith, Jessica (Will) Keogh, Jory Smith, Ashley Smith, Dianna (Ivan) Ward; great-grandchildren Aiden Smith, Lilly Smith, Joseph Keogh, Aurora Keogh, Kinsley Stahnke, Vanya Ward, Nikolay Ward, Dimitry Ward who will grow up hearing stories of their great-grandfather's remarkable life; other relatives and friends.
Lowell was preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Eunice Bliss; siblings Raymond Bliss and Marlys Lindquist.
Lowell W. Bliss lived a life filled with love, purpose, and adventure. His wisdom and faith-filled approach to life's challenges were an inspiration to all who knew him. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to guide and influence the lives of his family and friends.
Memorial services for Lowell: 12:00 PM Noon; Friday, June 13, 2025 at Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church, Main Sanctuary, 5025 Knox Ave S, Minneapolis 55419. Military Honors Ceremony and interment will be held: 1:00 PM; Monday, June 16, 2025 at First Lutheran Cemetery, 8580 Rushseba Trail, Rush City.
