Marcia "Marci" Kay (Engler) Carlson

July 16, 1955 — June 4, 2022

Marci (Engler) Carlson, age 66, of Lindstrom passed away Saturday, June 4, 2022 at M Health Fairview University of Minnesota in Minneapolis with her children and grandchildren by her side.

Marcia Kay Engler was born July 16, 1955 to Frederick and Inez (Christenson) Engler in Mora, Minnesota. She grew up in the Rush City area where she had many fond memories of “the farm” and “the cousins”. Marci graduated from Rush City High School in 1973.

After graduating, she attended Lakeland Dental Academy and became a dental assistant. During her dental assisting internship, she met Rick Osterdyk and the two were married in 1976. They had two children—Mackenzie and Brandon. Marci was a wonderful mother, always involved with the school and making wonderful memories with her children. Marci worked for a few dentists before settling at Lakes Orthodontics, where she worked for 30 years. Marci later married Jim Carlson.

Marci enjoyed golfing, bowling, “adopting” old ladies to take care of, telling people her opinion on how to do things the right way, cooking too much food like she was still on “the farm”, and all her patients that she got to know while working at Lakes Orthodontics. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lindstrom for almost 40 years, where she taught Sunday School in her younger years and was part of the Altar Guild—something she enjoyed taking her grandchildren with to sharpen pencils and straighten the hymnals. Marci also loved her town of Lindstrom and enjoyed cheering the 5K racers during the Karl Oscar Days, rooting them on from “Marci’s corner” from 1991-2021. Marci’s greatest joy was her family—her parents, brother and sister-in-law, all of her many cousins, her two children and her three grandchildren.

Marci is survived by her daughter Mackenzie Osterdyk of Shafer; son Brandon Osterdyk of Chisago City; 3 grandchildren: Dayton Osterdyk of Lino Lakes, Devin Osterdyk of Chisago City, Olivia Osterdyk of Shafer; mother Inez Engler of Rush City; brother Morry (Norma “Mona”) Engler of Rush City; father of her children Rick Osterdyk of Stacy.

She was preceded in death by her father Fred Engler.
