Marlin "Marly" Duane Olson

Marly Olson of Rock Creek passed away February 11, 2024, just 11 days before his 90th birthday. 

Marlin Duane “Marly” Olson was born February 22, 1934, the only child born to Milton and Martha (Dahlstrom) Olson on the farm East of Rock Creek. Marly attended Pine Grove Lincoln school through his grade school years and graduated from Pine City High School in 1951.

In 1954 Marly enlisted in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1958 when he returned home to farm with his parents. He met Geneva Klein at the Pine Camp Ballroom and they were married October 8, 1960.

In 1963 Marly and Geneva purchased the farm next to his parents, where they dairy farmed until 1986 when they decided to sell the farm and enjoy life, spending many winters in Arizona. Each year Marly returned to his roots, the home farm east of Rock Creek, where he and Geneva continued to live until his recent decline in health.

Marly was a member of Heath Perkins American Legion Post 51, where he served on the Honor Guard.

Marly is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Geneva; special friends Tom and Nancy Rys, John Rys, Cami (Joey) Babolik and family, Brett (Angie) Westbrook and family, all of Rock Creek; special niece Mary Lueth; sister in law Edith Lueth of Pine City; as well as other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Milton and Martha Olson; brothers-in-law Leroy (Lorna) Klein and Harvey Lueth.

Funeral services for Marly: 2 PM; Monday, February 19, 2024 at the Swanson Funeral Chapel in Pine City. A time of visitation and reviewal is planned from 3-6 PM on Sunday (2/18) and also one hour prior to the service at the Funeral Chapel. The interment will take place in Birchwood Cemetery, Pine City.
