Marvin Delbert Johnson

Marvin Johnson of Rush City passed away Monday, January 14, 2019 at Southview Acres Healthcare Center in West St. Paul at the age of 79.

Marvin Delbert Johnson was born June 6, 1939 to Carl and Alice (Coleman) Johnson in St. Paul, Minnesota. He graduated from North St. Paul High School in 1957.

Marv served his country in the United States Air Force and Reserves for 22 years. He married Jean in 1994. Marv worked for the Minnesota Department of Transportation for 44 years; starting from the ground up to a position in graphic design. While working for the MN DOT they sent him to school at Dunwoody.

During Marv’s younger years, he played hockey, raced snowmobiles, was in tractor pulls and raced at the Elko Speedway.

Marv had a passion for old cars and outboard motors. Polishing them was a part-time job. He loved to be with his family and friends; keeping in touch with his buddies from high school. He loved all animals and had many in his life. Marv had a lifelong affair with blueberry pancakes, frog legs and walleye. He loved to spend time at Smith Auction in Cambridge. They even had him get up and sell which was fun to watch. Later in life he spent a lot of time with his remote control; changing channels constantly from WWE, tennis, hockey and football.

The last four months Marv struggled to remain in our lives. He will be dearly missed.

Marv is survived by his wife Jean Johnson of Rush City; children Carl Erickson of Savage, Robin (Chuck) Hartkopf of Nevada, Amy (Gerald) Jedlicka of Rush City, Brent (Shannon) Tilley of Savage; grandchildren Marco (Chloe), Alex, Samson, Bailey; great-granddaughter Luna; sister Marlene Michaels of Roseville; sister-in-law Dianne (Doug) Cardinal of Rush City.

Marv is preceded in death by his parents Carl and Alice Johnson; step-father John Williams.

Father Tom Fitzgerald will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial for Marvin: 10 AM; Tuesday (1/22/19) at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rush City. A time of visitation and reviewal is planned from 4-7 PM; Monday (1/21/19) at the Olson Funeral Chapel in Rush City. A time of visitation and reviewal is also planned for one hour prior to the Mass at the church. The interment will take place at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis with military honors at 2 PM. Meet at Assembly Area 5 at 1:45 PM.
