Mary Lee Hill

Mary Hill of Pine City passed away on Thursday, July 17, 2025 at Sofie's Manor in Pine City at the age of 91.

Mary Lee Peterson was born July 22, 1933 to Frank and Ruth (Brandt) Peterson in Worthington, (Nobles County) Minnesota. Her parents farmed near Reading, MN, and later near Elysian, MN. Mary was the youngest of six children. In their free time, the family enjoyed playing cards or picture puzzles. Chores and farm work were an integral part of her upbringing, and she enjoyed working outdoors with the animals. Mary attended country schools, walking over a mile to school. She also attended a church school for two years to prepare for confirmation into the Bell Church's Parochial school. Mary attended Waterville High School; the family did not have electricity until Mary was a sophomore in high school.

Mary Lee married Calvin Lowell Hill on October 28, 1952, and together they built a warm, loving family. Mary had a fulfilling career in nursing, was active in church volunteer groups, was part of card clubs, taught multiple generations how to count Cribbage, and was known for making the best chicken soup that cured any soul.

Mary is survived by her son David (Dorothy) Hill; grandchildren Jessica Gerenz (Brandon), Richard Wasson Jr. (Ashley), Callie Wasson (Jason), Jeremy Hill (Kristi), James Hill (Michelle), Jared Hill (Britty), Patty Lawson (Scott), Michele Keil (John), Krista Mustazza (Jason), and Emily Teeman (Jason); and great-grandchildren Tucker, Breckin, Boden, Jasie, Kody, Kaley, Brooklynn, Braelin, James, Caleb, Connor, Greta, Elsie, Bryson, Elijah, Caleb, Abby, David, Lucy, Reed, Margaret, and Dominic.

She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Ruth Peterson; husband Calvin Hill; children Daniel Hill (Pam), Duane Hill (Faith), and Peggy Wasson (Richard); and great-grandson Deven Mettling; siblings Merrill Peterson, Rolland Peterson, Nydia Roemhildt, Amy Arndt, June Fischer.

The funeral service for Mary will be 11 AM: Saturday, August 16, 2025 with a time for family and friends to gather one hour prior to the service; all at the Swanson Funeral Chapel in Pine City. The interment will take place in Birchwood Cemetery, Pine City.
