Michael John Kurzhal

Michael "Mike" Kurzhal passed away Friday, February 21, 2025, at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis at the age of 62.

Michael John Kurzhal was born March 13, 1962, to John and Merna (Peterson) Kurzhal in Braham, Minnesota. He attended and graduated from Pine City High School. Mike walked the 2 miles to work regardless of the weather, he really excelled at his employment with Broekema Beltway for 15+years; receiving many certificates and awards through the years. He was also avid about taking care of his health, eating well and making sure his cats were fed and had many places to sleep in the sun. His love and caring for cats didn’t end at his home, many days he walked a half-mile to feed a colony of cats and took it upon himself to purchase all of the cat food out of his funds.

Mike was a highly intelligent person and had many talents and yet was very humble. He would gather his feelings and thoughts; wrote poetry and song lyrics, even creating a CD with his music that he gave away to family and friends. He showed his love for God in many ways, had a profound sense of humor and especially loved to make people laugh.

Mike is survived by his siblings Julie Sophy of Brooklyn Park, Tina Schramm of Pine City, Becky Warner of Pine City; very special friend Phira'El Barah; many nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father John Kurzhal and mother Merna Kurzhal Mowry.

A celebration of Michael's life will be held at a later date.
