Moses Renault-Moses, once known by everyone in Rush City as Bill Moses, passed away at home in Rush City on the morning of Thursday, September 14. During the weeks preceding his death, he had suffered several medical setbacks which added to the burden of other long standing health issues.

He was born on April 19, 1951, to Marlyn and Lois Moses. He spent his childhood and adolescent years here in Rush City, where he attended local schools, but he attended Carleton College for his Senior year. He then attended the University of Minnesota, where his studies were focused on Business and Finance.

Moses’ work history was a reflection of his varied interests and the restless energy for which he was known his entire life.  His career began in public accounting, with a specialty in tax preparation. He then spent several years in the hospitality industry in jobs which permitted him to use his accounting skills, but with a major component of customer contact. He found his true calling in the area of nonprofits and was the Comptroller at The Bridge for Runaway Youth in Minneapolis, as well as at Episcopal Community Services. He also did extensive volunteer work in several organizations providing services to homeless LGBTQ youth. The fact that he was a friend of Bill W. added another dimension to the contributions he could make to the lives of these young people. The last chapter of his work life was spent at Hennepin County, as a case worker in the Court system. He also found time to start up and run Brasie House, a bed-and-breakfast in the Wedge neighborhood of Minneapolis, for several years.

Health issues put a premature end to his work life, but in retirement, he indulged his life-long love of cooking, and put together two impressive pantries, one in Minneapolis and one here in Rush City, so that he could cook pretty much whatever he wanted, no matter how exotic. He will also be remembered for his lifelong love of gardening, which he learned from a number of Rush City old timers, as well as his love of animals.

Moses was preceded in death by his parents Marlyn and Lois; both his paternal and maternal grandparents Moses and Emma Moses of Rush City, William and Grace Challeen of Pine City; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Upon his passing, he was greeted at the Rainbow Bridge by a raft of beloved furry and feathery creatures, most notably Solomon the Cornish Rex and Sen-Sen Lace, the Shar-pei with whom he enjoyed the first of his two Canine Mutual Adoration Societies.

He is survived by Roger Pare’ his Life Partner; sister Sandy Kaufmann (Dennis) of Rush City; brother Jerry Moses of Lindstrom; nephews Andrew Kaufmann and Alex Moses; two Chihuahua children Houston and Little Man, with whom he enjoyed his second Canine Mutual Admiration Society.

Moses’ life will be remembered at a Celebration of Life at 2:00 PM on the afternoon of Saturday, September 23 at the Olson Funeral Chapel in Rush City, with visitation beginning at 1:00 PM. Please check our website for livestream link.
