Nancy Kay Brotten

April 30, 1946 — January 30, 2020

Nancy Kay (Berg) Brotten, age 73, passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2020 at her home in Pine City.  Family surrounded her with comfort and love as she peacefully moved to heaven.

Nancy was born to Agnes and Robert Berg on April 30, 1946 at Kanabec Hospital in Mora, Minnesota. She graduated from Hinckley High School in 1964. A hardworking secretary, Nancy had a long career at First National Bank in Pine City until 1986 when she and Bob started their own telecommunications business, Brotten Communications.

Nancy spread love and kindness everywhere she went.  She was a natural caregiver and while tiny in stature, she stood as a solid pillar of strength. She lost her father at a very young age and was devoted to her mother. After high school, she married and had three children, Troy, Andy and Gina. Her heart beat for her children, and she enjoyed supporting and encouraging them, and their friends, unconditionally.

In 1978, Nancy met the love of her life and soul mate, Bob Brotten. They were married the following year and she became “Mrs. B” to her husband and his five children. As a mother to eight children, her light shined brightest. She would later gain many grandchildren and great-grandchildren that she treasured.

Nancy is survived by her children Troy Rohweder, Andy Rohweder, Gina Rohweder, Sarah Roller (Charles), Synthia Muzingo (Jim), Phyllis Brotten, Robert Brotten (Priscilla) and Susie Kranz; sister Bette Jarvis (Joe); grandchildren Emme Rohweder, Sam Taylor, Ben Taylor, Gabe Taylor, Jenny Bloyer, Theresa Rolf, Hiedi Isom, David Bloyer, Eleesha Hruza, Desiree Luby, Robert Brotten, Chelsea Rae Amrhein, Dakota Brotten, Shelby Kranz, Alyssa Kranz; many treasured great-grandchildren; family and friends.

Nancy is preceded in death by her parents Agnes and Robert Berg; husband Robert “Bob” Brotten; brother Larry Berg; and son-in-law Jim Kranz.

Please join us in celebrating her life; Sunday, February 9, 2020, at the Swanson Funeral Chapel in Pine City at 2 PM. A time of visitation for friends and family is planned from 1-2 PM Sunday prior to the service at the chapel.
