Phyllis Olson

Phyllis Maxine (Haugen) Clendening Olson, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2026, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Fosston, Minnesota November 30, 1947, Phyllis was the cherished daughter of Melvin and Bertina (Satran) Haugen. Phyllis was baptized and confirmed at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston, MN.

Phyllis is survived by her devoted husband, Eldon Olson, and her daughters, Kim Kelly Berge and Sonja Clendening of Bloomington, who were the pride and joy of her life. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Sean (Cassie) Kelly of Lakeville, Brandon Clendening of Rush City, and Tyler Berge of St. Paul, as well as her two great-grandchildren, Donovan Kelly and Preston Clendening. Also by extended family, step-children Jessica Nyhart of Pine City, Eric Olson of Rock Creek, grandkids Trenton (Venchelle) Miller, Charlie Nyhart, Mason Olson, Sophia Olson, great grandson Mateo Miller; brother-in-law Ervan Ophus of Park Rapids, nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Margaret (Clarence) Peterson, Doris (Joe) Roehrick, Bernice Ophus; brothers Orlin (Bonnie) Haugen, Kermit Haugen, and her first husband, Jerry Clendening

A 1965 graduate of Fosston High School, Phyllis pursued her passion by attending and graduating from cosmetology school in Grand Forks, ND. She dedicated over forty- five years to her career as a hair stylist, during which she owned and operated a successful salon. Her warmth and talent left a lasting impression on everyone she served.

Travel was one of Phyllis's greatest joys, taking memorable trips to Hawaii and Norway as her favorite trips. She was a devoted fan of Elvis, and his music often filled her home with joy and nostalgia. Above all, Phyllis adored her family, treasuring each moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Chaplain Sharon Mathison will officiate services to celebrate Phyllis's life; Friday August 7, 2026, at 3:30 PM with a time of visitation one hour prior at the Olson Funeral Chapel in Rush City. Her family invites all who knew her to join them in honoring her remarkable life and legacy.
