Ramona "Monie" Schmidt of New Brighton passed away Thursday, July 25, 2019 at Sunrise Senior Living Center in Roseville, Minnesota at the age of 83. She was born on August 11, 1935 in Minneota, Minnesota to Leo and Bertha (Mattson) Buckley.
Mom was a faithful daughter of Jesus Christ practicing her faith and attending mass regularly until her last days. She was a tremendous example of the pure, unconditional love for all of her family, immediate and extended. Teaching by her example to care for others, sharing what she had, treasuring loved ones; Ramona spent most of her life at home raising six confident and grateful children. Mom served as a volunteer in many capacities including: as a funeral server and in the choir of St. Charles Borromeo, as a Cub Scout den mother in the Boy Scouts of America, Pack 419, as a leader in the Holy family program at St. Thomas Aquinas, and serving the prayer needs of inmates in local prison populations. She instilled a love of family in all of her children carrying forward even today with joyful birthday celebrations, family focused
vacations and simple tender moments. She exhibited a quiet devotion to others in simple ways like unexpected cards to friends just to say hi, warm washcloths in Ziploc bags on long day trips in the car, or in goodies tucked away in her purse or drawers around the house. A great organizer of many happy family occasions, she will be sorely missed but her loved ones rejoice that she is resting with Christ and the great love of her life, Gene, in heaven.
Ramona is survived by her children Dawn Michels of Roseville, Lonna-Jean (Rick) Schmidt-Nelson of Fridley, Joe (Diane) Schmidt of Lino Lakes, Jim (Cecelia) Schmidt of Eagan, Chris Schmidt of Robbinsdale, Mike (Steve) Schmidt of New Brighton, many grandchildren & great-grandchildren, sisters Sedona Buck of Shoreview and Lorraine Narog of St. Anthony, sister-in-law Irma Buckley of Brainerd, many other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Eugene Schmidt; parents Leo and Bertha (Mattson) Buckley; great-grandson Kayden Schmidt; brothers Leonard and Donald (Rose) Buckley; sisters Blanche (Oscar) Knutson and Vivian (Bud) Hensel.
