Richard Allen Berglund

December 9, 1955 — May 16, 2026

Hinckley

Richard (Dick) Allen Berglund died on May 16, 2026, at the age of 70. Dick was born December 9, 1955, the third of four boys to James and Ruthellen (Tomlinson) Berglund of Pine City, MN.

As a young lad, Dick loved playing sports and being in the great outdoors. Dick enjoyed little league baseball with his brothers and friends, spending time swimming, camping, trapping, hunting and fishing. He was honest, generous, funny, and full of life with whoever he met. Young and old of all ages appreciated Dick’s company. Dick had no enemies.

As a teenager, Dick continued his love of the outdoors and sports. He excelled in football, baseball, hockey and wrestling. Dick’s younger brother, Jimmy, who was four years younger could have been a burden on a teenager, however as a testament to Dick’s unselfish nature, he was proud to include Jim in everything. Most teens would have left with friends, but not Dick. Jim was included, and taught how to camp, hunt, fish and trap.

Dick was an exceptionally talented young man. He was a self-taught artist for his father at Sta-Brite signs. He was accomplished in home construction, welding, and manufacturing. If it could be built… Dick could build it!

In 1974, while riding his motorcycle on the frozen ice of Cross Lake, Dick met the love of his life, Barbara Hampton. Dick and Barb immediately became soulmates and later married. Dick and Barb had three wonderful children, Jade, Holly, and Beau. Dick was a loving husband and father, always sharing his compassion for life. Barb and Dick supported each child in their choice of sports and activities. Dick was very proud of the kids in everything they did. He showed great enthusiasm as he told stories of family sporting events, camping adventures, hunting, and fishing trips.

In 1982 Dick lost his soulmate, Barb, to cancer. In the years following, Dick had many burdens and struggles to bear. May he finally be reunited with Barb, Holly and Beau and find eternal peace.

Rest in peace Dick, you will be missed.

Dick is survived by his son Jade (Marcie) Berglund of Pine City; grandchildren Madisen, Braden, Zachery Berglund; brothers Doug (Becky) Berglund, Daniel (Julie) Berglund all of Pine City, James (Dawn) Berglund of Park Rapids; mother-in-law Cheslyn Gandy; special friend Kim Novak; several nieces and nephews, family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ruthellen Berglund; wife Barbara Berglund; daughter Holly Peterson; son Beau Berglund; fathers-in-law Thomas Hampton and Jerry Gandy; and brother-in-law Todd Hampton.
