Ronald "Ron" Everett Peterson

August 22, 1942 — March 21, 2019

Ron Peterson, a lifelong resident and community supporter of Rush City Minnesota, passed away at the age of 76 on Thursday March 21, 2019 at Regions Hospital in St. Paul.

Ron was born on August 22, 1942 to  Everett and Angela Peterson and shared family life with brother Doug Peterson.  Ron graduated from Rush City high school and attended the University of Minnesota-Duluth for several years. Early in his work career he was a project engineer for Milwaukee Railroad. But his true calling came in 1982 when he opened the Rush Lake Resort with his father and brother Doug. For 37 years Ron was up with the sun to make sure the resort guests were truly enjoying their vacation. Ron openly shared his resort with local residents – sharing a beer, food, and good conversation about their day.

Although it wasn’t just the resort that drew people to Ron. He was dedicated to his community youth sports and often stopped by a game to chat and watch his favorite Rush City Tigers.  Known by his peers as a “Great Catcher” and “Home Run Hitter”, he was an amazing baseball player in his own youth.

In 1987, Ron met Marilyn Fessenden and quickly shared his passion for the resort with her; working side by side until the day he was called home. In what little spare time he could find, Ron was one with nature; ice fishing, summer fishing, deer and bird hunting with his German Wirehairs – Ron lived for all of it.

Ron lived life as a Renaissance Man. He knew a little something about almost everything. Although his large stature gave an authoritative presence, he was a gentle giant with his family and sincerely loved by everyone he had the opportunity to share life with.

All of Rush City, Ron’s family and friends, and his German Wirehair child will miss him dearly. God speed Ron – may the fish be large in heaven!

Ron is survived by Marilyn Fessenden, Extended family Tom Fessenden of Rush City, Kim (Asnaka) Getahun of St. Paul, Tracy (Paul) Gullerud of Rush City; 10 grandchildren; cousins Anthony (Lois) Kochevar of New Prague, Robert Carpenter of Wisconsin, Rev. Jeri (LeRoy) Bergquist of Rush City, Dr. Greg (Joanne) Peterson of Fergus Falls and many friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Everett and Angie Peterson; brother Doug Peterson.
