Russell Eugene Bergstrom

Russell Bergstrom, lifelong resident of Pine City, passed away Saturday, February 9, 2019 at the Minnesota Veteran’s Home in Luverne at the age of 71.

Russell Eugene Bergstrom was born July 29, 1947 to August and Fidelia Bergstrom in Pine City, Minnesota.  Russ was the sixth child born into the Bergstrom family and the first son.  He spent his childhood enjoying the outdoors; swimming in the summer and snow activities all winter.  He loved to go hunting with his father and brothers Gary and Augi.  Russ attended St. Mary’s Catholic School until the eighth grade.  In 1967, after graduating from Pine City High School he enlisted in the United States Navy.  He proudly served just under 4 years which included 2 tours of Vietnam.  In May of 1971 he returned to Pine City; two months upon returning his father August passed away.  Russ along with his brothers took over the family plastering and stuccoing business.

On September 11, 1976 he married Arloyne Carl; Russ and Arloyne didn’t have children of their own, however they loved all their nieces and nephews.  Sadly Arlyone passed away in 2006.  In August of 2009 Russ moved to Marshall to be closer to his sister and her family.  In December of 2015 Russ moved to the Minnesota Veteran’s Home in Luverne and remained there until his death.

Russ had a deep love and devotion for his parents, wife, sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews; he will be missed but never forgotten.

Russ is survived by his siblings:  Shirley Drellack of Forest Lake, Darlene (LeRoy) Gilman of Cambridge, Doris (Pat) Foley of Marshall, Gary (Debbie) Bergstrom of Minneapolis, August (Leanne) Bergstrom of Cambridge; brother-in-law Mitch Dupre of Cambridge; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Russ is preceded in death by his wife Arloyne Bergstrom, parents August and Fidelia Bergstrom, sisters: Carol (Harry) Pamplin; Barbara Dupre and Linda Bergstrom, nephew Mitchell Pamplin.

Deacon Gene Biever will officiate funeral services for Russell:  11 AM; Friday, February 15, 2019 with a time of visitation and reviewal one hour prior to the service all at the Swanson Funeral Chapel in Pine City.  Interment will take place at Birchwood Cemetery in Pine City.
