Ruth Marie Schmugge

Ruth Schmugge passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at St. John’s Hospital in Maplewood at the age of 66.

 

Ruth Marie Wiberg was born July 23, 1957 to Clement and Arlene (Olson) Wiberg in Rush City, Minnesota.  Ruth grew up on a farm in Rush City with her favorite horse Sunshine. In 1976, she graduated from Rush City High School.

 

In 1981, Ruth met the love of her life Jeffrey Schmugge at The Chalet and they were married January 2, 1982.   Ruth worked at Plastech Corporation for 13 years.  She earned a nursing assistant certificate and was employed as a nursing assistant for around 8 years before her health forced her into early retirement. 

 

During her retirement years, her favorite hobby was quilting, she donated many of her quilts to area nursing homes.  Ruth loved her grandchildren and especially enjoyed the time she spent with them.  She loved gardening, when she was physically unable to garden, Jeff kept the yard beautifully adorned with flowers.  And of course, she lovingly cared for her 12 cats. 

 

Ruth is survived by her husband Jeff of Rush City; children Melissa Wiberg of Floodwood, Robert Schmugge of Linnwood, Washington, Heather (Bruce) Gangelhoff of Thief River Falls, stepson David (Chiharu) Schmugge of Minneapolis; grandchildren Isis, Mason, Amira, Braiden, Kai, Caenon; mother Arlene Wiberg of Pine City; siblings Loretta Geisler of Beroun, Larry Wiberg of Isanti, Cathy (Mike) Walter of Towner, North Dakota, Chris Wiberg, Brian (Rita) Wiberg, David (Roxanne) Wiberg all of Pine City, Teresa (Gary) Wiberg of Englewood, Colorado; sister-in-law Janis Erickson of Rush City; brothers-in-law Brian Schmugge of Ogilvie, Anthony Schmugge of River Falls, Wisconsin, Tim Schmugge of St. Paul, Kenny Schmugge of Vadnais Heights, Gene Schiller of New Port; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

She is preceded in death by her father Clement Wiberg; sister-in-law Jennifer Schiller.

 

A celebration of Ruth’s life will be held from 1-4:00 PM; Saturday, August 19th at Living Hope Christian Center in Pine City.  The service starts at 1:00 PM and immediately following the service a light lunch will be served at the church.
