Thomas Allen Welsh

June 12, 1954 — March 13, 2024

Grasston

Thomas “Tom” Welsh passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at Northern Pines in Pine City, Minnesota with his wife present at the age of 69.

Thomas Allen Welsh was born June 12, 1954 to William and Marcella (Steitz) Welsh in Salem, Ohio and grew up in nearby Lisbon, Ohio with his sisters and many friends. Tom was baptized at the Saint George Catholic Church in Lisbon and later served as an altar boy for 8 years.  As a youngster he made his money mowing lawns around town with his grandfather. Later his interest in horses took over and after graduating from high school he went on to farrier school. A lot of time was spent around horses; shoeing, training, tending to the needs.

When he grew tired of that, he decided to get his Commercial Driver’s License and hauled horses for a living. Later he did haul freight across the country which gave him a chance to travel most of the contiguous United States. In total, he drove close to 1.5 million miles. Besides horse racing, Tom’s other hobby was Nascar races.

Though he called many places home, besides his hometown, he liked the Lexington, Kentucky area. While he lived in Kentucky, Tom was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church and became a member of the Knights of Columbus. He also worked on a couple of Houses for Habitat in the community. That is where he met his wife, Pam, whom he married five years later. This gave Tom 3 step-sons and later 12 grandchildren. And, oh my how he loved those grandchildren! Then came 6 great-grandchildren and the excitement continued.

Tom is survived by his loving wife Pamela Welsh of Pine City; step-children Garland (Ann) Crider of Grasston, Grant Crider of Willow River, Jefferson Crider (Ann Davis) of Superior, Wisconsin; 12 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; sister Margaret “Bunny” (Joe) Ieropoli, of Elyria, Ohio; brother-n-law Bill Gaston of Lisbon, Ohio; 3 nephews; special family friend John Helman of Ohio; many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents William and Marcella Welsh, sister Sandy Gaston.
